coming to you my dear friend.... I am so sorry to hear abour your back....first things first....rest rest rest!!

If you bed is too soft it will take you longer to heal...put a board under the mattress...use heat pads to keep your muscles warm...muscle spasm will increase the pain tenfold....and use the painkillers!

I have had back pain since I was 19 years old slipped a disc picking up a chair - ouch....but 8 years ago I had a dreadful fall down a full flight of stairs, compacted 7 discs in my back, hairline fracture of the hip...and other injuries....it took me a year to recover, and it was 10 weeks before I could sit down and four months before I could drive again....... I refused surgery...I live with it so I know what you are going through.....however my DH bought me professional hand held massage equipment (as used by physio's) it has been a life saver, he also bought me a back stretcher again as used by physio's I absolutely cant live without it! when my back "goes out"...it looks like a medival rack! .... and when I use it you can hear the spine clicking back into place...ahhh pain gone......and can walk upright again.......(note a chiropractor could do nothing for me!)

It might also be wise to purchase a rubber ring to sit on, this will take pressure off the lower back and should help the pain....you must do everything to help your back heal.......stay off work!!...Hot showers and warmth to the injured area and rest up till you feel better.....

Keep the forum posted as to how you are....we will worry otherwise...

I'm praying for you, too, Mahonri. You have a very patient and loving wife! I hope you get yourself to a specialist soon and get things checked out.
My mom had 2 herniated discs in her neck and I saw how painful that was for her. She went for several years getting injections to handle the pain, but last year she finally went through surgery and it has helped her SO much. For a long time she was unable to do much of anything because the pain was so bad. It's so good to see her able to do things again.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of the prayers and kind thoughts

I KNOW THEY WORK>

I slept the entire night... from my last post until the alarm rang at 6:30AM.

I rolled out of bed, gingerly took a shower and told my wife I was going to work. Was just having her put my shoes on for me when my chairside called to see if I was going to come.

I went.

So, here I am... one root canal took me almost 2 and a half hours. I had to take breaks from him to work on other patients. Did a crown, then another root canal, some cleanings, a recement crown, impressed for a lower partial, put in a night guard/occlusal splint all without one break and as the day wore on, the better my back felt.

I stopped at the chiropractors office on my way home... he was out to lunch so I told his girls to tell him that I was doing better. Made my deposit at the bank, DW had lunch ready for me so I got in bed, ate my lunch, took another pain pill and muscle relaxer and she handed me my laptop.

Son #2 got the towncar fixed. Son #4 is taking care of the chickens and my family is really rallying around me... all of the neighborhood kids are gone and it's just peace and quiet here other than the birds I can hear singing outside my window.

I got someone to teach my Sunday School lesson for Sunday so I'm just going to relax, spend some time here with my friends at BYC, watch some football (alma matter plays Alabama tonight) and sleep until my alarm goes off on Monday morning.
