They love the compost pile.![]()
Good Morning Krystal, how are you today?
Doing well, just got off work... Days finally over.
My flock's doing well, except for a lice scare. Lost a girl to lice infestation yesterday, but checked over 2 dozen birds and no lice. I'm treating the entire flock just in case.
The brats are going further than I like on their ranging times, but they seem very alert and it's nice to have birds throughout the yard. Yesterday or day before I had one pecking on my office window. "hey I want a treat"
Last week was a bad week for turkeys. Lost three full grown birds, which means the coyote is back. Well at least for two. The third was just stupid. Normally, we don't lockup the turkeys as they sleep on top of the shelters and the only thing that can get them up there won't even try (great horned owl). The last barred owl that came to dinner became dinner.
Either way, we locked two of the turkeys in the duck house, cause they went in there. One of my young Bourbon Reds wanted out so badly that he forced some of the staples out of the wire and managed to get his head and neck outside the shelter, then got stuck. Opossums, Raccoons, and fox won't go anywhere near a full grown turkey, unless it's trapped in some fashion. So what ever got it just took what was outside the wire.
I'm going to be deciding on what breeds I want to continue come spring. My Turkey friends are trying to get me to go for Sweetgrass turkeys for eye candy. I find them beautiful, but there's only one source for them and you can't order by color/variety. They choose what to send you.
Sorry Krystal, I've written a book here.
