Okay yall, today I went out to get eggs and I noticed some digging around my coop and my picture flag was hanging crooked. So apparently I had what I think was a raccoon! We also have a little two foot fence around part of our yard to keep the puppy in and it has a hot wire on top.... well the raccoon got caught up in that and the hot wire is all twisted and pulled away!! Yall, the thought of something getting my sweet gals while they sleep peacefully is very scary to me:(
I tell you what though, I will kill it:mad:
I know they are just doing what they do BUT! I don’t care.... there are too many of those rodents anyway! And I have raised many abandoned baby squirrels, ducklings, and even a baby nutria .... and I have always said that my next would have to be a baby raccoon.... now, I’m not so sure:hmm
I think, when the puppy is done with the little fence I am gonna use it to make a perimeter around my coop and use the hot wire... just for measure.

Raccoons are determined little predators. And they are really smart. A no dig apron and hot wires are a wonderful deterrent. Fox is another in that class. They are fast and sneaky. They'll wait at the edge of overgrowth and wait for a bird to be in just the right position and then run, grab, and keep running until they are in a safe place.

This is only as far as it got.... thank goodness!

The chickens will certainly thank you! You can also place heavy rocks to pin the chicken wire down, just for extra measure.
Thanks! The wire is attached to the bottom of coop and I have U-hooks holding it down in the ground ... so hopefully there is no way in! But from what I hear about raccoons :rant
