my goose incubation UPDATE all are hatched... pics of all 3 on pg13

Ok....thats good to know because I would have freaked if the gosling pipped but didn't come out in a day....Thanks for letting me know how it all worked...I thought the first breath was after pipping into the air sac. Well actually, don't they breath just very slightly to be able to make the sounds they make inside?

Either way I am glad to know how the membrane works. I am just hoping I get the two of mine left to finally hatch. One was non fertile, but the other two are good...one still way more advanced than the other...looks as though by a few days. I hope this isn't a bad thing...at least I'll know when hatch time comes, to keep the egg that is not hatched in there for a few more days. That is okay right? If I even just get one I'll be happy. It might be lonely for another month or so until I get some more to hatch but hopefully I'll get both. I've never hatched a seb before...

It's so nerve recking knowing that there is so much time left and stuff can still go wrong. I wish there was a date where as long as they made it to that point, they'd be okay....

Even after they hatch they are fragile. I hatched some grey dewlap toulouse last year along with my buffs. The grey made it to 5 weeks old and then one morning it was gone. No sign of troubles or anythign out of the ordinary at all. Until they are adult size I watch over them like a hawk.

OMG!! that is soo cool!!!

i went to see my geese today and i held one of the egs in the nest and it was so much heavier than my 20 day old eggs.... its wierd how fast they develop!

still hasn't hatched yet, but there has been progress. There is a bigger hole and his bill keeps poking through. I'm wearing a path to the 'bator lol I keep peeking in the window even though I know it take a day or 2. still nothing from the other one, but with the 'bator shut I can't hear if it's piping on the inside yet or not.

hopefully tomarrow is the day.

I just ordered 3 more (with an extra) from cali...hopefully they get here okay. IT was a great deal though from Eggchel (ithink that is her screen name) and she has beautiful sebs...I figured to improve my chances get as many as possible....I wish I were at your point austin because I am at day 13 now...they are still goin' but I remember losing my last egg from my last attempt one week before hatching...when I opened it, it had feathers and all and it totally sucked...but I am hoping this won't happen this time

I am in the meanwhile building my chicken coop that is supposed to be shared with the goslings.....I don't know if that is going to actually happen though, they might have to take over a section of the barn. It keeps my mind occupied though...I have been better at not messing with the eggs, but I do forget to turn every once in a while and end up only turning twice a day.

I am wondering if I can add these new eggs in with my old ones or should I put them in a different incubator?

I would put them in a different 'bator. When the ones you have now start hatching, they could knock the new ones around to much a kill the embryo.

I turn mine twice a day. At night when I go to turn them is when I mist them and give them the cooling time. Do you mist yours?

I don't mist per se...but I drip water on them either from the bowl of water or from one of the sponges that I am refilling. I haven't yet bought a spray bottle...now that I think about it, I am going to walmart today for groceries and shoudl buy one...hopefully I don't forget.

My neighbor is going to let me borrow hers but she has a turner she told me to use....well now that I think about it, its probablya chicken turner and won't work with these geese eggs...plus I don't think I want to use one...I was told I should and then I heard bad things about them...so maybe its better to hand turn.

DAY 14 - I candled as usual (without touching them) during cool off time and they are moving...so is this the half way point? Either way I am happy I have knocked out another week... 2.5 more weeks to go (if hatches on 31st day) or 2 weeks (if hatches on 28th day).

I am hoping they hatch. I have ordered 3 more (coming with 4 though) and if I am lucky and get most of them to hatch, I'll need to sell some goslings because I really only wanted two but wanted to increase my odds...hence the 7 total eggs. So if anyone thinks they might want a gosling (if and only if I get more than two) let me know

I am in the southwestern part of Virginia. I actually got these new eggs from CA though...but if you were talking about the goslings, I will need advise how to ship because I have no idea....it would be my first time having them....
