Keep a sharp eye on your hens. If you notice any of them laying on their back in the nest, propping their head up with one wing & smoking a cigarette, you can be pretty sure they've been bred

made me look! -it up and yep internal gonads that transfer sperm via the vas defrens straight to the cloaca.

They just put their cloaca on the hens cloaca and transfer the sperm. Its called a cloacal kiss.....

Also why hens ruffle up and shake after being mated, it helps transfer the sperm.
