No Crow roo collar?

But the fact remains that it is still the law. Which leads me to ask again - why are you so entitled that you don't have to obey it? As far as it being "unfair"... That's life. It's not fair. It's not "fair" to your neighbors that you feel you can break the law, either. Sorry - "It's not fair" is not a valid argument or reason to do something.

Its not the law by governmemt, its a bylaw. If my neighbours dont mind then its ok. The point of the law is to not annoy the neighbours. Can you not understand that if the neighbours dont care then there is no problem!. Whats the point of the law if the neighbours dont mind!.

But i have a point, The law is because of noise. They dont want complaints from the neighbours but there dog barks louder than a rooster. So thats just crazy and stupud to bam roosters but not noisy dogs.

I don't know enough about NZ laws to comment on that portion of this, but I'm fairly sure your Roo is going to end up in the stew pot. even with a no crow collar, they are still fairly loud, and it only takes 1 annoyed neighbor to cause you grief.

Hey, you never know how the neighbours will react. But you can try to make them react positively.

We live in an area where roosters are banned. We bought 6 chickens from someone, and three turned out to be roosters. We had to find homes for them. Not easy. The ban is there. Respect it and your neighbors.
Hi guys, I am considering adding a rooster to my flock but i live in an area where roosters are banned. I was wondering if roos would actaully be quiter than hens with a collar. My thoughts would be that if the rooster crows 10 times a day, and the hens do 10 egg songs a day, what would be louder. I am guessing the hens because the egg song last a couple of minutes but the crow last like 3 secs. And if you take include the collar that ads another point for the roosters. i was also wondering if there are certain breeds that would be better for urban living? But anyways thanks for your replys. :D

If i didin't care about my neighbours i would have a rooster right now. Im going to keep one quiet just because of the law.
If we were aloud roos i would still try to keep it quiet cause i dont want my 9 neighbours hating me lol.

Ok, maybe I need to clear some things up.

I live in an acre of property with friendly neighbours, At night they will go in a rooster box in our shed (Indoors, practically a seperate garage). They will have a no crow collar to be less noisy and I will keep the rooster a relatives house to check how noisy they are. I will take the smallest and less noisy rooster because it’s not like I’m gonna pick any old roo, the amount the rooster crows depends on the individual. So I think as long as I get no complaints, it’s fine.
I had a light Brahma rooster. I in the year I owned him I don't think I ever heard him crow once. Don't know if it was just him or the breed. Thought of getting some more to find out.

Everyone, I know this thread is like super old, But i though id give an update, So decided to keep one of my gold laced wyandotte roosters ehen i raised a batch of chicks. He was crowing heaps in the morning, so now he sleeps in my garage lol. I ordered a crow collar for him and he doesnt crow much anymore and its much quiter. And hes as tame as anything. I just pick him up and he sits in my hands untill i put him back lol. Havent heard any complaints yet, But im moving my chicken coop to a different location of the property with less neighbours.
