No Crow roo collar?

Guys I think I did a bad job at clearing things up, so here is every little detail.

What I will do to keep to roo quiet:
-
Use a rooster crate in a closed sound proof shed at night.
- Use a no crow roo collar
- Choose a rooster that doesn’t have a real dominant crowing personality
- Give my neighbours fresh eggs.

General info
-
One acre property
- Nice neighbours
- in almost all neighbours there is a big front lawn between the fence and the house
- The rooster will be a Golden laced Wyandotte, Barnevelder, Pekin or Silver spangled Hamburg.
- I’ll limit the crowing by taking good care of him and make sure he has nothing that annoys him.

Well, again. The noise that they make is up to the individual if they are bratty or not. Also the fact that you have like, 10 (maybe more) in there also adds to the noise. I forgot to mention I have a arauacana/ polish cross and whenever she wants to be free or wants treats she will make a very loud noise until I give her what she wants, or leave. Her noise is actually louder than a roosters crow and I get no complaints lol. She just sits there all day doing that if she is cooped up. I hear her from my house non stop. And my neighbours house it’s probably closer. But it’s not that much of an annoyance. So I can’t see why a rooster would be. If you have lots of roosters they will crow more and often have crow competitions. I have a reasonably small flock of 13 and the rooster won’t feel the need to crow as much with a smaller flock to control.

Lol I don’t think we have aspca over here. The people that set the law is the waipa (Region I live in) District council, If i manage to keep them quiet and get no complaints they won't even know i have a rooster!.My goals is just keeping my rooster quiet so i can keep my neighbors quiet lol. There are people that live in a more urban environment that me and have had success keeping a rooster so i wouldn't just keep doubting that i can keep a rooster against the law. Please take account on the type of environment i live in and not just the fact that roosters are banned. And just so you know i live i a large lot residential which basically means i live in an urban area but my property has a more rural feel.

THIS is the reason that backyard owners get a bad name !!!

Seriously ???!!! You KNOW it is BANNED, yet you are going to do it anyway?
I bet when you get caught you will be the one crying over it all but you will have no one to blame but yourself !

You CAN"T STOP A ROO FROM CROWING !!!!!!!!!!! IT WILL STILL CROW

What is the point to having a roo anyway ???
Shhhh! This is BYC. We are enablers!

And the point of having a rooster is because he's pretty. See example above and to the left.

I for one do not think that it is fair to the Rooster to wear a collar all day and night for something that is normal for him! If you were not able to be yourself would you think it's fair? If you can't have one where you live then don't get one that you might have to re home later... It's just not right!

????, Its collar or die. I would like to save one of my chicks lives so he can grow up to be a nice boy. I have 5 GLW and 9 Barnevelders. I am planning on keeping one of my roos.

How is it cruel???, either it deals with the collar or its soup, Simple as that. Would the rooster want soup or collar?, i think collar.

I didn't even realise you couldn't have roosters in urban areas, but I suppose that makes sense (I mean, I lived in rural nz my whole life, so it's never been an issue for me)

Hopefully the neighbours don't mind. Could you placate them with eggs?

He'll still crow, even if there's nothing annoying him. Our roosters crow intermittently throughout the day, for no reason other than to alert the world that they're there

Hi guys, I am considering adding a rooster to my flock but i live in an area where roosters are banned. I was wondering if roos would actaully be quiter than hens with a collar. My thoughts would be that if the rooster crows 10 times a day, and the hens do 10 egg songs a day, what would be louder. I am guessing the hens because the egg song last a couple of minutes but the crow last like 3 secs. And if you take include the collar that ads another point for the roosters. i was also wondering if there are certain breeds that would be better for urban living? But anyways thanks for your replys. :D
Check out weedemandreap.com she uses a rooster collar. I have a rooster that crows sometimes at 9pm, midnight, and 1am. Then the others join in about 3:30am

Ugh, The law is a dumb law, They let dogs bark all day long and they are just as loud as a rooster, our neighbour has a dog that is always barking and is just as annoying as a rooster ( if not more). They also let a pub play music until twelve and they are so noisy I can’t sleep when they play it. And the fact that it happens like every 2 weeks is annoying aswell. The law is so unfair to roosters and it doesn’t’ even take account on what the neighbours think.
This sounds like where I am. Dogs Barking, kids shouting and screaming at all hours , people burning rubbish in there gardens smoking my house out. Mostly we have to close the windows and bring the washing in. And the pub opposite playing music really really loud until whatever hour they please. The sound of a cockeral crowing is far nicer than the strangled cat screeching that happens when they have a karaoke night! I can have a cockeral if I wanted but the first noise complaint and he would have to go so I don't. There is so much more antisocial behaviour around me and I would be vilified for having one. I must admit that I'm not sure a collar is particularly kind to the cockeral. I would worry about him maybe chocking if he was to try and swallow something larger and it stops him from being what he is including the crowing. I'm not sure how restrictive they are.I don't know what would be best for you. Only you know that. But have a contingency plan ready if it doesn't work out. I heard that brahma cockerals are fairly quiet and they are really nice and big!
