I thought my hen was having a seizure of some sort the first time I saw it. Mine spend time every single day taking their dust bath.

I love dust bathing!! My quail like to dust bathe in anything they can...their food crumbles, their sawdust, their grit. It's awesome.

My cats do it too. Heck, my children do it.

Add diatomaceous earth to the dust bath area and work it into the topsoil with a little fine sand. You can buy it at businesses that service swimming pools for around $11/50# bag. It is supposed to be a great bug killer that is harmless and non-toxic,( unlike Sevin dust) I put a box of it mixed with sand and dirt inside of the coop so they have a place to do it when it is raining or snowy. They have never pooped in it yet and it is always tracked up. Still, I do not know if they use it for a dust bath or not. I also made a place outside under a tree using compost, sand, and diatomaceous earth. They have used that one for sure.

We have a salt water pool and when we clean the filter/back was we add DE to the pool. A very fine powder. Is this the stuff you are talking about? Is it safe for the chooks?
