I usually feed my birds (I have geese, turkeys, meat birds and layers in the same coop, soon to be separated but for now together) a 4 way mix of Oat, peas, barely and wheat. I also add in layer crumble and some oyster shell for my layers.

The local feed supply however is out of wheat and my predicament is that I am almost out of feed and going away for a bit so I can't really wait. Therefore I ordered a 3 way mix of peas, barely and oats (rolled). I will order wheat separately when I get back and mix it back in.

I was wondering how essential the wheat is and whether I might do some harm feeding my birds the 3 way sans wheat.

Does anyone have any experience with this or suggestions?

Go to the feed store and buy a bag of all flock.
It has all the nutrients your birds need no fuss no worry.

Wheat is full of protein which supports muscle growth. The current three grain mix has a decent balance, I just prefer more grains in my feed. I would add wheat to it for a little extra push.
