Mere Kay posted this on a colored egg enthusiast Facebook group (sharing with permission). All three eggs are from the same Welsummer hen! So this is an excellent example of the affect of a heavy bloom.

That could also be a shell porosity issue.

Shells that are more porous than others can appear blotchy like that.
I would suspect the upper 2 eggs are porous, the lower one looks like excessive bloom.
Candling the eggs would show the porosity.

Ah! I was just reading about a hen whose eggs regularly have dark spots that are thinner than the surrounding shell. Would that be a porosity issue as well?

Could be and/or a glitchy shell gland.
