To those who use dumor feed. Pay close attention to the layer and keep an eye out for green specks on the pellets ( mold)
Usually on the ends where its snapped
I had heard a lot of people had that issue. Personally the time I had to buy Starter feed from tsc last year, I bought Dumor’s brand... it smelt funny. Similar to rotting fruit.

Here in SE Mass we have a great feed store. They produce farm feed. Consumers can buy by the bag. While farms can get truck loads. You can see their 18 wheelers rolling down the highway all the time. Price for a fresh 50 pound bag is $11 - 14 . Depending on type. Friendly knowledge folks. That is also where we get day old chicks.

Hey @jreardon1918 - do you mind sharing the name/town? I'm in RI, but my folks are over the border in MA and I wouldn't mind checking it out.

I used to have a small feed store less than 10 minutes up the road. The place was quick, easy, and reasonable prices. I could go there, buy 200 lbs of food and a couple of bales of straw, be home AND unloaded in 30 min if I hustled.

The woman who ran it was getting older, and was having trouble finding help, so she sold a couple years ago. Since then, it's been mostly TSC, unless I happen to be near another locally owned placed (it's a solid 25 min away). My hay guy is about halfway there, so sometimes I do a combo hay and feed trip.

Animal feed is about the only thing that TSC is good for...they always have it in stock and it's busy enough that it's always fresh. Now, say you needed an actual supply for your tractor? No chance! They should call the place "Shavings & Feed".

16% layer is $13.99 for a 50 lb bag, and pine shavings are $5.99 for 8 cf. I'm in Rhode Island, so I'm sure folks in the midwest pay less.

(I never heard the term "feed & seed" before so I thought it was a chain ) but I generally get my chicken feed from one of two local feed stores. If there's supply issues there's also a couple of smaller pet food stores that carry some chicken feed/will order chicken feed if I can't find it elsewhere. I pretty much don't shop at big chains for pet needs anymore, surprisingly the small shops have better variety, just smaller stock.

The one I use truly is a “feed & seed” but it’s just a generic term. The name is actually Planter’s Supply. Feed isn’t even in the name but they have lots of it. In the spring I get all my plants and seed for my garden there also.
