Holy hell, people... 250+?!

There was a guy on BYC that had a camera in his coop! (A Nest brand lol) I would love to do that. It would be great for remote viewing if there is a strange noise at night or just chicken tv all day long.
I would love to do that, especially to figure out who is laying what eggs. I have a couple that I can't figure out who is the supplier.

It’s sort of a two person operation ruby. Get that little sib to help you.
I do it alone and I hold Odin so he's facing away from the hand that's applying that oil. (left arm holding him facing to the left, apply with right hand.) Then he can't see my hand coming and doesn't try to eat it. I use bag balm though so I don't think it's nearly as tasty as coconut oil.

So remember how I was having a lower back ache?
Earlier I started getting cramps.

I have officially joined the world of adult women.
Midol, lots and lots of midol. & put some supplies in the glove box of your parent's car and in your bookbag so you have them at all times.

Well then, congratulations Ruby! We should have a hen party!! I don’t recall ever being excited about it.
My oldest actually cried, not b/c of hormones but b/c her childhood was over. She was 11 1/2, the little one was 12, but we were expecting it any time at that point... She more just wanted to get it over with so she didn't have to keep wondering when it would happen.

I was talking about more monsters but I was teasing
IDK, there's a reason why I only have 2... I kind of agree w/ the monsters part... esp now that we're in the teen years.

PIC is ok. He was concerned about the after twitches, but I explained them and it was ok. And then I started to cry a little bit, and he was concerned, and I explained it... and he was OK. Came inside, finished his homework and ate a sammie. We talked about it a bit, and he knows he can ask any questions. I asked him if HE would be able to cull a chicken and he said he wasn't sure. NOT that he couldn't try, but doesn't think he has the strength to pop it's head off. Yup, that's MY kiddo!

Wh00tWh00t!!!

Um, you can tell your friends that the EARLIER your menses start, the LONGER they last! And I didn't get mine until I was 16.
I think it's a case of when the time comes you do what you have to do regardless of emotion. I've watched videos and read stories and it's all seems so overwhelming.. but you did your best with a bad situation and you've learned a lot. Plus your experience has helped others.

Well. I've got a story to tell. A sad one.

I'm working tonight, so instead of visiting my parents I dropped the Milk drinker off at their house so I can work in peace. As I was coming back from my parents' house, which is next door, I heard one on my roosters giving an alarm call, repeatedly. I looked with my headlamp, but didn't see anything. So I sent DH and my FIL out to take a look. I was really worried because one of our coops was damaged and the bottom wasn't completely secure. They went out and found an opossum gnawing on one of my Black Cochin/Dominique cockerels. The opossum had dragged the cockerel out from under the coop through the opening I was worried about. It took them about 15 min of chasing the critter back and forth, but they finally made sure that it wouldn't kill anymore chickens.

Tomorrow, I need to help my FIL with fixing up the coop to make it properly predator proof and do a census of the chickens.

I feel really bad about this, we intend to fix the coop over the weekend, but it was just too cold and messy. What really sucks is that we picked up the supplies to fix it today.

Is it just me or are the squatch watchers a bit cursed at the moment.
How terrible! So glad you caught the opossum & took care of it. Winter sucks b/c the predators are even more deseparate for a meal. It seems more and more are losing birds lately. It's making me more paranoid about my flock, esp since I've seen different foot prints near the coop... I had the stupid camera set up wrong. Still trying to figure out the best place to put it to get a view of what's hanging around.

Another journey for me, rushed hubby to emerge. He has pneumonia ,low sodium, white blood count is high. Right now doing breathing treatment. I don't know what else to say :(
Oh no! I hope they get him straightened out. This winter has been really bad for illnesses.

Everyone almost in bed?!?!

Just wanted to post so that all y'all will be jelly h8terz when you get up in the morning.....cause......

........we are sleeping tonight with the bedroom windows open!

Mua ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Not fair. We're actually warm today (almost 60!!!)... I even opened the window all the way in the coop. Hopefully all this crap snow and ice melts before we get hit w/ another 6" of snow tomorrow (plus ice).

:tongue Meanwhile, I still have snow drifts up to my waist.

I am so SO sorry. :hugs :hugs I'll look for the video I found of a fast way to do it. :hugs

Nobody's going to call you a wuss. These birds really are special. I myself have a spoiled bantam that my stomach turns to a snowball at the thought of maybe having to euthanise some day.
Where are you located that it's so bad? New York? We had a forecast earlier this week that had us getting a foot of snow, but they changed it so now it's just 6-8.. but who knows.. they're wrong so often.
