She's a flock raiser chicken, she gets a seed/grain mix .She has an acre to forage on. There is food all day long. She's laying, in fact she's my only layer right now. I get that she needs more for that, but she's eating a whole lot more. Ok forgot, she gets meat scraps and at least I'd say 10 to 20 superworms a day. Started the worm thing for the winter.
What kind of food do you get for them? Is it possible that they are missing something in their diet that the others don't need as much of? I read something one time about a hen that wasn't laying and all the others were. Well one day she gave her cat food and the next day or so she layed. Then the hen stopped again and she gave it more cat food and bam more eggs do you see where I'm going.

Besides the green, rainy and Mediterranean climate in Puget Sound, we have 2 mountain ranges we can see, and one volcano in view. Some areas have lahar (volcanic mudflow due to eruptions that could melt glaciers and send floods down some of our rivers) evacuation routes, and east of the volcanoes, yes, we have several, have to worry about ash. Washington state actually had 9 different climate regions, ranging from dessert to rainforest. The state, as a whole, has temperatures that can range from single digits, and occasional below zero, in the winter to in the 110 to 120 range during the summer. The east side gets the extremes, the West side ranges from occasional teens in the winter, to occasional 100s in August. The normal range of difference for my area, Greater Puget Sound, is about 60 to 60 degrees. Contrary to popular belief, we don't have rain all the time, winger is the rainy season, but it's fairly rare to have continuous rain. Yes, we will have weeks where it rains every day, but not continuous rain. You should check out our state online, it really is gorgeous, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I've lived in the Midwest, from Michigan down to Texas, Germany and Hawaii before moving here, and this, by far has been the best place or of all of them. I refuse to move, did to much of that for the first 26 years of my life, and we've lived here for over 22 years now.
Yay I was right California and Washington

It sounds amazing! (except the areas that get really hot. I have enough of that here!). And I know it doesn’t rain ALL the time but compared to here? So. Much. Rain. :love We haven’t had rain at my house in over 3 months :(.

I did notice that when mine went all kinds of chubby they quit laying or laid very infrequently.

Easy way to regulate overweight chickens, turn them into indoor chickens, everything is regulated, food, scratch, foraging... :wee
Lol this is the third time in a week I have brought Bubbles inside for a check up (cough and treats and snuggles cough) And each time I can’t help but think how nice it is...comfy couch...lap full of fluffy chicken....She was very happy today. Hubby spilled chicken treats on the floor and didn’t have time to clean them up. Bubbles agreed to take care of the problem :gig

There are others on byc from out this direction, but as far as I've seen, no other Squatchers, just me.
That works. :gig I have one bird that comes indoors whenever it goes below 0F (which ends up being a lot of the year) and a duck currently inside for bumblefoot... no permanent indoor birds; I did have a mostly indoor one but I lost her this summer.

ETA: I meant to quote your post above this.

I'm really wondering if she needs something in her diet that she isn't getting and she is trying to fulfill that need. She could be a piggy as well  don't know but got me to thinking.
