Not in bone form. He has had very soft stools. I pick up the poo every time any of them go so have been watching for fragments.

The vet said not to worry to much since he is such a big dog. She said he should be able to digest it.

25 yrs ago when we had our first Standard Poodle, he had Addisons disease and it made him a little wacky and he would crave anything cottonlike or paper. Of course we didn't know this until one evening we had friends over for dinner and I let the dog in from outside. While I was wiping his feet my gf said " I think he has something stuck on his butt" so I took the towel and pulled what I thought was a piece of poop sttuck on him and I pulled and it kept coming and coming.....here he at some point had swallowed a linen napkin whole! I felt like Harry Houdini pulling scarves out of his sleeve...... It was funny but disgusting. After that we had to watch him like a hawk. He would swallow socks whole, dish rags, paper towels .....anything he could get to. One time he snatched the little socks right off of my nieces feet while she was sitting in her car seat . It was like a treasure hunt when we cleaned up poop in the yard. Never knew what you might find

Sadly hew died at only 18 months from complications from the Addisons. Boy was he a handful
 
That is always a worry for me. Intestinal blockage from eating the wrong thing is horrible.

When my boys were young someone was throwing rocks at them from the alley. Both of them were very playful pups and 2 months apart each had swallowed a rock.
The one that stole the ham was able to pass his. The other one got the 1500 dollar surgery, a week at the vets, 2 weeks on kitchen confinement with me 24/7. Yes I slept in the kitchen with him. He lost 18" of intestine and had to be given chicken broth with mushy food every 30 minutes while recovering. At first he would only take a couple teaspoons. Scared me pretty solid.

Now and for the last 8 years every time I pick up poops I am on the look out for rocks. I find some during the school year. I know idiots are still throwing rocks at my dogs.
The path down the alley isn't even on my side. My back fence drops 7 feet nearly straight down into a drainage canal. No need for anyone to be on my side.

Here's a dog recipe for next time. If the dog has eaten something hard or sharp and the vet wants to "see if it'll pass".


SQUISHY white bread is key.

You need some fresh squishy white bread
a jar of peanut butter AND
a container of Vaseline.
Rolling pin.
*Roll of paper towels for your hands. Vaseline doesn't wash out of t-towels easily.

Get a stack of bread slices and cut off the crust.
Roll over each square of bread to smoosh it. Neatness does not count here. The object is to smoosh (highly technical term) the bread back into a firm, doughy form.
You want a stack of these.

Take a small spoonful of vaseline and put it in the center of a square, then gather the sides up around it and squeeze it into a meatball size lump.

By now the dog is probably sitting near you anyway so it's time for yummy treats!

Put a smear of peanut butter on each one so it smells good to the dog.

Continue until the dog has consumed several spoonsfull of the Vaseline.
Follow with several plain dough balls really smooshed hard.
Here is the mechanics of this treatment.

The doughy compacted bread is the Trojan horse that carries the Vaseline into the system. It doesn't break down as quickly as it would in its soft and fluffy form, and moves into the intestines still doughy.

The theory is the Vaseline acts as an intestinal lubricant while the dough balls provide the padding around the sharp or pointy matter and trigger the intestines to keep flexing and working to move things along.

Sounds crazy and certainly wouldn't work if you dog swallowed something comepletely impassable like a whole shoe, but oh wow.
I have seen it work with my own eyes.

The first dog my family had ate so many things we lost count. Not only stolen food but scary stuff too. She loved dirty underwear. Plastic troll dolls. She ate coins that came back with holes in them from the acid in her stomach. My dad used to find Hershey Kiss wrappers in the back yard. Sparkling poos. The scariest was when he found the blades of a disposable razor. We didn’t know she had eaten it.
 
I will keep that in mind Stacey. Sounds like a solid plan!

By the way..... The main symptom when both of my dogs had intestinal blockages was profuse vomiting. I am talking huge amounts of very liquidy puke.
The second symptom was being completely off their feed.

So far not an issue with the ham thief.
