Aww, I don't know why you don't love spikey old sweet gum balls! They are a real hoot to step on barefoot. Don't know why anyone would plant some on purpose. The limbs are good to witch water with though.

on whomever planted all those dang “gum ball” trees in my back two neighbor’s yards.

As you know my Welsummers have very tender feet and are terribly prone to bumblefoot, and I’ve struggled with it all summer.
This morning I’ve been clearing their free range enclosure from hurricane debris.
So far I’ve gathered a wheelbarrow full of pine cones, and THREE five gallon buckets of #+%+%*}^{ GUM BALLS!

Why not? Mine are basically bathing in credit card offers (Junk mail goes in the burn pile. We do not have recycling).

The chickens are weird today, worse than normal. I was sitting on the ground petting Sallie, no big deal and Hobo and Negan each picked a pants leg and started pecking and pulling like molty pitbulls. Sallie wasn't peeping and I didn't have food so unless they wanted lap time I have no idea what was happening there.

Yeah, that's the old septic tank that was supposed to be emptied then crushed and buried. It sunk...they brought dirt...in sunk again.
Smells lovely.

It’s not MY feet I care about as much as my chickies.
Rosie and Ashley both have bumblefoot again already!

So was the house still on a tank or hooked to city sewer?
Why on earth wouldn't they have finished that part???
