Official Squatch Watchers

So this happened. I went to check on them and collect eggs and noticed that my white birds had blood on them. Klaus was the victim. Not sure what happened, but the back of her comb appears to be detached and she had several spots on her comb that look scratched. I sneaked her into my apartment and cleaned her up. Driving w/ a chicken wrapped in a towel on your lap isn't as hard as I expected. She sat still the whole time. I cleaned w/ w water and vetericyn spray. Washed away as much blood as I could. Then I ended up putting blukote on it. I though about using super glue, but I was worried that I might get some of her feathers stuck inside. I'm going to go over tomorrow morning and check on her. Hopefully they leave her alone.

The heat lamp brought the temp up to 15 from a -2 so that's helping.
And when I first got to the coop there was 4 eggs, then I had to deal with the chicken emergency and when I got back there was only 3 eggs. The nest was wet so someone ate one of the eggs. I dropped one into the poop bucket and it cracked and 1 was split from the cold so only one egg made it.
So today was a super fun & eventful day.. can't wait for tomorrow!
I'm going to get up early & go check them before work to make sure Klaus is ok. I really wish I could have kept her here for the night to keep an eye on her. She was so good and calm on the drive to the coop. She even stuck her head out of the towel and was watching out the window.

I see them! Two under the big gray one and one in the middle between gray and black.:)
I kept baby quail in my bra for a few hours after they hatched when out power went out lol

Everyone keeping warm? -4 here (RF of -21). Even the Seramas have found a way to keep warm. Can you find all 3?

Broodies are tag teaming to keep each other and their eggs warm too

Well that was a craptastic day for sure.
I really hope the blu-kote is enough to fend off the offender.

:fl

I think not using the glue was a good decision.

Where is Stacey?!?! She had this happen if I remember right......which I might not.

Holy carp! Thats almost too much fun for one person. Poor Klaus, wonder what brought that kind of beat down on?

Crazy heater is working! Using less oil then I thought too.
Got up to 10° in the coop today. When I left for work it was 8.8°. I'll take it! But bbbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!
So glad it's working well. You should do a post about it.

Who was it that slept with chicks in her shirt when the power went out? Was that @pitbullmomma?
I did one night when William was a chick.. I brought him home w/ me and every time I put him in his cage he'd start screaming, but if I held him on my stomach under the blankets he slept all night. I tried several times to put him in the cage during the night but he kept peeping. In hindsight I didn't have the room warm enough.

You remeber right, she stitched it back. :)

I swear autocorrect has it out for me!!
It keeps changing cochin to coffin too.

No Batman coffins please! Lol

Good job! There two girls are hiding under the big blue roo's wings with nothing but their tails sticking out lol. I'm glad he's so willing to keep them warm! The Serama roo feels like he needs to be slightly more manly I guess lol

I remember someone else having something similar, but couldn't remember who. I just hope they don't grab it again and pull the back up.. I'm hoping it'll just scab up and heal.

Not sure. I did block them in so they can't get out into the little run, but I reallly hope that's not it. I assume she was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but the 2 white ones are jerks so they probably just took a snap at her. We're supposed to hit 8* tomorrow so I'll probably wait til friday to unblock them & I'm going to leave the heat lamp in until Saturday just b/c they're all doing so carpy. I did peek at Klaus' butt while she was here and she didn't look red anymore so that's one good thing. Toothless' comb looked bad too so I tossed some blukote on that too.. hoping it helps, but figure it can't really hurt. We just need to get through these next few days.
