Henny, what you described in the one you did the necropsy on was egg yolk peritonitis. It is treatable but it also means internal laying and an end to egg laying. That's what Gurtrude had, and since she is a pet first and foremost, treating her and saving $$ for surgery for a permanent fix is worth it. I'm pretty sure that isn't a route you're interested in taking unless it's a super special bird. Treatment is draining the fluid from the abdomen, antibiotics and pain medicine, and depo provera monthly. Gurtrude's depo is $16/month.

I'm sorry the same seems to be happening to miss may, but I know you'll make the appropriate choice for her.

Here the only bird vet is snobby and only treats larger parrots. :hmm
Trying to treat May is out of reach for me.
It is our reality.

Morning folks :frow What's left of this storm is heading to the Carolina's.
:frowGood morning!
I ran out in my nightgown this morning to tend to the chickens, cover my wheelbarrow full of soil add a few more inches of that soil to my laundry basket potatoes and put away some garden tools that I left out by accident yesterday.

DH came home hobbling Home from work last night on a mysteriously swollen and painful ankle and I spent the evening playing nursemaid and didn’t get back out there as I’d hopes after dinner.

The rain just got here as I was coming back inside. Phew!:th

Awwww thanks Stacey. :hugs

Culling such a pretty hen won't be easy.

What is going on with his ankle? Sounds painful.

Around midnight we had a flash of lightening that was the brightest I have ever seen followed by the loudest thunder that lasted about a minute. It was intense!
I am about to get out of the bed and get started with the day. This is the only day I don’t have to be up early, if you count 6:45 as early most days.

The ankle is a giant question mark.
He doesn’t remember rolling it or tripping or anything.
I’m wondering if it’s
actually gout or cellulitis
And not really an orthopedic issue at all.

He was going to try to get into his primary this morning because they have onsite diagnostics exceeeeeept,
When he called there was a recording that said they are closed for Good Friday.

So he’s sitting at an urgent care right now.
