Official Squatch Watchers

Guys this last batch of hatchlings is determined not to survive.

I got home from day job and found they had emptied their entire waterer into the brooder. One chick soaked and expired. The rest wet and crusty with food they spilled into the water then walked through.

I feel bad but it's like they are trying to off themselves. View attachment 1778116
Wow!

I am sorry that they did that.

Time for the blow dryer to dry them off!

The prodigal guinea cock had returned. I just spied 3 guineas scratching around in the horse field.
That is a relief!

They are escape artists then

We’ve been free ranging them since we've moved the chickens off the garden. They are doing a great job at tick control. He just wasn't hanging around with the two hens earlier today.

I don't think he found another hen, no one in the immediate vicinity has guineas.

I put a heater on while I mopped out the brooder. Dryed the worst most crusty ones in front of it then had to skiddadle. Double shifts are hard for chicken keeping.

Hey guys, I have a question... What's a fair price for Barred Holland live day old chicks or hatching eggs? To get my hating eggs they were $5 a piece and apparently she's no longer selling. BH are critically endangered. As I look at hatcheries, most all sell rare breed eggs for $5, and there's only one hatchery there that sells BH live day old chicks and they sell eggs and chicks for the same price $5. Of course, prices don't include shipping and handling. I've got several folks interested in buying one or the other, still waiting for NPIP results, but trying to figure out how to address price issue.

I would charge more because your overhead costs per chick are higher.

I agree with Rae about charging more.

I also wouldn't bother with NPIP unless its required. In Ohio it's a joke. They test for 2 things. AI and one other.... I'd much rather buy from a breeder that shows lab results they obtained themselves testing for Marek's and MG or ILT. Some of the big contagions.

A big thank you to @FlyingNunFarm for posting my Serama rooster on Facebook. He went to his new home today and the young lady that took him was so sweet. We exchanged Instagram info so I can see updates on him. She has already messaged me to let me know he is settling in nicely. Thank you so so much Nunny
