Now we just found out that where we planned to put the drain field isn't going to work because the telephone lines run right across it and it will be a $10,000 fine for the contractor if he breaks it.

Yes, but the line runs right across where we want the drain field and we have no idea how deep the line runs. It could be a couple inches, it could be 18 inches. If it is really deep, there won't be enough slack to put the leach field chambers under the line.
I hope you can get a good leach field some where on the Property!
Rae, just a word of warning... Depending on when it was put in, it's likely not straight. They used to snake it in the hole to provide slack if needed. I don't know when they stopped that practice but know they don't do it anymore.
Lately, they've just been running them 2-3 inches under the surface. It is really annoying.
