Good afternoon! Sorry i'm late but hubs got in yesterday and ya'll know how that goes, he is alive but just a bit frazzled.
As for me, i'm afraid its just all downhill from here.
Standing at maybe 7 inches tall, quarter pound soaking wet, still waiting on the tail fairy...my little Henry belted out the finest crow iv'e ever heard out of a little fart.
Scared the sh*t out of the rest, and Negan looked for a solid hour trying to find the loud SOB disturbing his morning fanny run.
Yeah, it is on like donkey kong.

Boys are dark at hatch , I believe.

Nope, everybody starts out yellow. They turn dark.

It seems we went from snow to HOT this year. Our forecast is well into the 80's for the next week with one day being cooler.

I cannot imagine dealing with heat and high humidity.

We have humidity, but no rain yet. Overcast though.

Green with jealousy over all these incubators! No roosters where we are going. But I might have to get some fertile eggs to hatch! Some local AZ people -- so I do not have them scrambled by our P.O.

I love quail. I am waiting to make such ambitious plans until we get moved and set up. A few chickens, the the bird math takes over . . . First, a secure home. Predators abound here in Prescott. No free range here!

I'm going to be selling. I want some guineas for our property once we get over there, but I don't want to brood them right now. I may keep some of the broody raised guineas. My internet got put in yesterday and it works. It's nice to be able to text down to the house now!

I didn't calibrate the Brinsea because it was so reliable last year. Maybe I should have. I set it at 37.5 C, which is what I had it for chicks. I don't know if that is too warm for guineas (though I have hens trying to hatch guineas right now).

I love my Brinsea, I've been kicking myself since I bought it because I didn't spend the extra $100 to get the 54 egg one rather than just the 28. I think the splay leg has more to do with assist hatching and humidity in the last few days than the temp.

Do the chickens care that they're not chicks after they hatch? Like, can they tell that they aren't chickens or are they just happy to have babies?

I've read some people had good luck buying fresh eggs from whole foods or similar stores and have hatched them... I'm not sure if they get refrigerated & still work or if their store has a local supplier who drops off fresh eggs. I guess you could ask around once you move & see where they get their eggs from. Obvi that's only if you don't care what kind of birds you get.

My tiny human was ticked b/c I wouldn't pick her up from school. Today's the last day and they were doing nothing but watching stupid movies (her opinion, but probably mostly true). She was trying to convince me to come get her so she could be with her chickens.. They missed her. Nice try, but it was raining.

I have hatched chicks from fertile eggs from trader joes and whole foods.

I am very close to the place that the eggs come from though. The further away the farm is the less likely that the eggs will hatch it seams

Some hens can tell and mind, others don't. I've seen videos of ducks and geese hatched by silkies. The babies are bigger than mom after 2-4 weeks.
