I like it Henny, nothing nicer than a good sturdy workspace.
Iv'e had too many "tables" pfft, fall apart on me mid doing stuff so a sturdy one is a rare thing of beauty. Chooky has had a heck of an ordeal so I imagine if she's anything like me "lord help her if she is" time is wonk when a certain point of being upset happens.
Super sucky if you have other engagements like work and school.
I hope she updates us, today but if she dosent I get it.
She will though in her own time.
She knows we are here when she gets a chance to fill us in and im almost certain she knows we worry about her and little Blossom

My sewing room is still quite crowded with the file cabinet and big blanket box in there.
I think you can see what I am going for though.

Not a pretty set of tables but super sturdy.

Yeah I still have an ugly piece of wood under the window. It was there from having the old window covered in plastic.

So I'm going to add to the never-ending chicken chaos. This evening when I went over and let the chickens out I noticed that one of my amberlinks was acting a little weird. She ran out with everybody else and seemed fine but I noticed she was standing with her legs really far apart and doing the penguin walk. I grabbed her and her abdomen is very bloated and swollen. I have soaked her for about 15 minutes but I didn't have any Epsom salts so it was just warm water. I brought the cage into the basement so she's inside now. I gave her some feed, peas, and egg shell. I'm going to go over tomorrow morning and take a look at her and see how she's doing. Hopefully whatever the problem is it will pass. She still finishing up her molt so I'm kind of surprised if it's something with an egg. Any suggestions? I looked around and pretty much everything said to either wait or try draining her with a needle.

Son of a b****!
That stance and that walk :(.

Mine that did that was internally laying. :hit

It could be fluid build up but:confused:.

I really hope she is better tomorrow. :fl

That's what it sounded like in every thread I've read. Though half the people never responded with what happened and the other half was divided between people who said their chicken got better and that it eventually died. Obviously I'm hoping that she makes it whatever happens. But her head was a very dark purpley red so she was clearly straining. It seems weird that it would be internal laying since she had been molting for a while and does not appear to be finished. Half of her head is still bare.
I'm pretty sure this is the same chicken. The other chickens comb is still very late pink because she's also molting. I took this yesterday. She seems to be standing normal and not having any issues.

Does she have pin feathers in her naked head spot?
I ask because that feather loss pattern I have seen when I have a meanie picking on someone. Witches grab the feathers there and won't let go.

I feel like we are have to be the most unluckiest bunch of chicken tenders on this entire site.

Not the unluckiest. :hugs

We have a lot of birds between us all. The more birds the more weird stuff.

Yeah. She's got some pin others coming in. She just had an incredibly long molt cycle. She started out in Spring but she lost her so there's very slowly. Three out of four of my production layers had a really long molds. Klaus molted in February because that was a great idea and then she ended up losing the tips of two toes because she didn't have any feathers to keep her feet warm. But when I brought her in the house so she could heal she finished her molt really quickly. The other three have been slowly molting all summer. Klaus was the only Brown layer who had been laying. I've recently started getting other eggs but I assumed when was Nibbler and the other was Loki. Not long ago I got three brown eggs but I assumed that that was Klaus Nibbler and Loki. It's possible what I thought was Nibbler was actually this white one. I just washed my eggs from the last week and there was several smaller brown eggs so maybe she had been laying and ran into a problem. Or maybe she was starting to resume Laying and is having issues.

Good info on her oddly long molt.

If she were mine I would start the baths (which you already have) weigh her and watch for any changes.
It is really hard to know what the underlying issue is. :hmm

If she is a decent weight I would be tempted to start antibiotics.

Is a vet an option where you are?

Internal laying means antibiotics, draining the abdomen, and putting her on depo-provera for the rest of her life. If caught early and managed religiously, she can have a good life. You may even be able to pursuade her to hatch for you.

The depo would be every 2-3 weeks, so if you can afford it, ask the vet for a vial, the dosage and syringes so you don't have to take her in every time.

Oh gosh, I hope it's not internal laying!
