I got a brooder space set up in the big house for the chicks.....if they came in. Yup downsized a bit to much. Adding in non broody production birds. If all went well three each of California Whites and Black Sex Links.
Brooder space is 28" wide 6.5' long and 26" tall. That should allow them to get fully away from the heat.
 
I knew when you said your hubs was bummed about getting rid of so many there would be chicks in your future lol.
This brooder looks like a circus, 8 derps are nearly fully feathered but Puddin and Dee Dee are still mostly fuzzy.
Hobo's kid is feathered, I named her Oprah and Jerry is pretty much featherd and looking like a big stoned turkey in there.
Oprah is going to be really pretty, she's getting that funky penciling around her neck and on her breast and she's got the biggest, sweetest eyes.
I almost forget she's a demon baby.

Oprah is looking fancy!

The feed store called and the chicks are there. It is located on the other side of the college town north of us. I hate driving through there. It's to far for me to go and leave these dogs alone that long. I will go once my son is home, or when he calls to say he is on the way. I trust them for one hour....not a second longer.

I think I will cook on the grill tonight......brats, jalapeno bacon thingies, something for hubs cause he hates brats and fresh corn from the garden sounds good.


By the way.....I cannot be held responsible if an extra chick makes it into the box.......

Most BSL pullets have penciling leakage around their necks. It can look really pretty. Here are two I hatched a few years ago.

Thanks. My Black Cochin/Doms didn't have any penciling, just leakage. I don't have either of those birds anymore. I sold the more red one and the darker one flipped a bucket over herself and roasted.
