I'm thinking boy... I see what look like saddle feathers. Not all males get the long tail feathers (or so I've read). Did you say how old and I missed it? The comb is reddish too.... but that could be age.

eta: Legs look pretty thick too but nothing to compare it to so that could be me.

If it helps, I don’t hate it, I just don’t care for it. If IT wants to be kind I will be glad to make beastly accommodations. IT will come eat treats from my hand, but other than that IT runs with those big ostrich legs, pounding the ground like thunder. Haha!
My Production Reds were around 5 pounds, then I got Bantams. This Beast/Ostrich mix is something I have never seen.

It looks more red in the picture than it really is. I am thinking 12-14 weeks. The fact that IT is such good buddies with Yeti mades me think Roo.

Maybe that’s just it.
You’ve grown accustomed to your more delicately built birds and so this one seems grotesque to you.
All my girls are big breeds. 1australorp, 3 buff orpingtons, 2welsummers.
I chose like one would shoot in the dark based on my “ideal” look of what I imagined waddling around in my yard. It makes sense though that I chose 3 “large breeds”. I have always liked big dogs too. When they come running for treats it literally sounds like half a dozen yorkiepoos coming across the yard!

I still don’t know how many weeks old your chicken in question is. But I think it’s striking. I’m guessing it’s a pullet and not a cockerel despite a few questionable feathers in the saddle region.

Girl! Those legs are nuthin’ compared to my chicken Rosie! SHE is a beast to behold. I’d send a picture but she’s currently in molt and looks god awful. Her comb and wattles which are GI-NORMOUS have shrunken down to Teensie tiny! I’d say I am loving her now more than ever simply because she is looking so ugly and vulnerable.
She was actually my favorite chick but then everyone tried to convince me that she was a boy so I sort of withdrew my affection for her in case I had to rehome her or worse yet cull.
You know that no matter what you decide I’ll support you though.

I'm craving movie theatre popcorn. I don't know why......just want really buttery popcorn.
Last night, hubby wanted popcorn too. He used one of our son’s individual school bags and he burned it. Acted like he didn’t know how to make popcorn and I had our son to go show him. THEN, he takes the burned bag to the garage and says I can feed my chickens the burned popcorn. Ummm, how about, no!
