Official Squatch Watchers

Lost another pullet today. This one had what i think are mites. Reddish looking and eggs on the base of the feathers. I feel so stupid, thought she was just failing from Mereks. So they all got dusted with poultry dust and i need some spray to use on the coop. I just feel awful!
:hugs

I do have some good news, i picked up 6 rabbit cages and 4 rabbits today. The cages need work. I really didn't want to buy all of the rabbits but the guy hurt his back and family is sick . He is trying to cut back on animals. At least they are all does!

Wow, how sad. There's been so many posts about mites lately And so many birds dying from them. I didn't realize they were so dangerous. When my birds had them I freaked out but it didn't know it could actually kill them. I was also under the impression that during winter months you're less likely to have a Mite infestation because wild birds are usually the ones who bring them in & the cold kills them off. I think it's a good time for a Mite check.

What kind of bunnies are there? Do you have pictures?

I checked Odin and his comb looks really good except the black spot towards the back. I have a feeling he's going to lose that spot because it's very hard but I put bag balm on it this evening anyway. His wattles are another story. It looks like they're going to be fine but it seems like the skin along the edges is drawn up so it's making his wattles cup more. I don't know if I'm explaining that right or not. But while I was putting bag balm on him a 1 of the ladies kept coming up and grabbing a hold of his wattle. I felt so bad for him. I noticed the same one is pecking through the side of his caged area trying to grab it him too. I have a small section of plexiglass I think I'm going to attach to the one side of his cage to at least keep her away from him part of the time.

Sorry for your loss :hugs

I guess they just suck so much blood out of them they can't survive. How horrible! I took some used drawers i bought and put sand and poultry dust in there, will add ash when i get some that is dry .
The rabbits are dutch, mini satin, Holland lop and unknown. I guess the daughter showed them but went off to college. It was nasty in there. I could not leave them.
Pictures later, it was getting dark when i came home.

What are you going to name your fur babies? We had a rabbit but unfortunately he passed away July 4th, not what breed he was.He was the class pet, they had no room due to room change. So of course our daughter brought him home. It's bin 2yrs, don t know what caused it. I think he was stung by a red wasp. We have wasp real bad.
