My chickens were using a ladder to get up and down off the roosting area. I took it down for one night after adding a new nesting area and gave them a new way to get up. They didn’t adjust, so I added the ladder back. I had to put them on the roost last night. This morning, they couldn’t get off the roost, again! :barnie. They usually come down the ladder, but wouldn’t do it this morning :barnie
I know my roosts are a little high, and not a large area to fly down. I guess today or tomorrow I will build a different ladder. I can build up the floor height my adding more shavings???

Got to jump in the shower and get busy!!! Have a great day!
 
Good morning all! Up early, but it's just so cold and overcast and MOIST, so I've been lingering in bed. Finally dragged my tater outta bed, got dressed, but still no coffee or shower or anything. I keep hearing the hollering wind blowing through our yard, and tatering chickens are all gathered in the hoop coop where the dead chickens are being found. I'm really afraid to go out there!

PIC is having a day off from school work so we can go and see if and where we need to reinforce the coop. There is literally NO SIGN of where something could have gotten in to the chickens, so we're flummoxed right now.

TIME TO PARTY Y'ALL!!!! DH is finishing up his leave (vacation) paperwork for his RETIREMENT packet!!!! Should have about 80 days of leave, starting 11 September, and then by 30 November, he should be an official civilian!!! wh00twh00t!!!
 
Skipped the hundreds of pages since Friday... What did I miss? Misty, did your husband get to come home?

Interesting... I bought some of that bagged treat stuff FOR chicken that has oats in it..

I went shopping w/ my kids yesterday and tried on a pair of jeans... the worst part is undressing in front of a full length mirror. Worth it since I got a pair of jeans that fit.. but still, not the best experience.

Ugh... gross. But it makes me feel better about our weather hearing how bad yours is.

I let mine out Saturday and they were not impressed w/ the snow, but they stuck it out. Yesterday went much better and they were grazing all over in the mud and water. Poor things are going to be shocked later when it snows again. Hopefully it doesn't last too long though.

Ungrateful little raptors. You renovate their home, at not cost to them, and they turn up their noses. Maybe they'll figure it out today.

Congrats! Are you going to move now that you're free or can you stay where you are?
Do you have any snow or mud to look for tracks?

So Jaiden has been having some issues.. any suggestions?

@apryl29 this is our first home, mortgage and all. I keep thinking about moving to somewhere with more property however, if we can buy some of the neighbors property, I'd be OK with staying here. It's a toss up on whether or not I want more land, and start over AGAIN from scratch (although we only have about 2 years invested in here), or we want to save up for a pool and a camper to go to museums on weekend for the PIC.

That makes sense, esp when you've spent years moving around.. Plus you're pretty used to how things are there. Really, it's a decent area weather wise, and moving everything would be a huge PITA. My parents said for years they were going to move south after my gma passed away... then she died and they bought her house from the estate... My family is never getting away from here. LOL
