Chickassan
RIP 1975-2022
No possum zombie this morning, I looked everywhere! Maybe it listened when I told it to vamoose. I feel bad for the critter, most likely not rabid but really messed up. I hope the heathens don't find it.

I’ve been taking probably 1.5 grams of Vit C a day for the past week. Hopefully it starts helping soon.Red eat more vitamin C, hopefully it wasn't bad cheese.
21 going ok he's allowed thicker consistency but no solids as of yet but working on it, next exam March.
If not we'd all out run them.Morning all....why do Mondays come so fast?
Morning squatchers!! Aaaaarrrggg, the chicks will be coming soon!! Brooder is all set up, I have nutridrench at the ready, my mom is going to swing by the post office to check with them and report whoever threw one of our packages into a puddle(while it was raining), and I'm here at school. Waiting. Anxiously. Feb. 12 is the hatch date. When should they get here?

I'm concerned about taking the kids.. they wanted some last fall when TSC did their 2nd run of chicks. My tiny human asked for a chick yesterday too.. b/c we ONLY have 13.My feed store got chicks this week. I am not allowed to go without an intervention team.

Can you try a different supplier?I would like more Speckled Sussex but idk if there is any point.
They're so big! Glad to see that they're doing so well. That last one is so pretty! Finally got my pictures uploaded.
I've been trying for the past hour to upload some chicken pictures I took earlier this morning. They kept failing. I finally got them all loaded.
Here are the Cockerels that are on Death row for today. I will process them later today after I get the Milk Drinker down for his nap.

It looks like Chicken Surprise is a purty little pullet!
View attachment 1260634
But, she is definitely not all Buff.

This BSL girl is HUGE she is as big, if not bigger than her cockerel brothers. I think her Mama was one of my Dom/Buffs with that coloring.

This little pullet is about the same size as chicken Surprise. I think her Mama was a pure Dom and she just has a little red from daddy.

This handsome little fellow HAS to be from one of my Dom/Buffs. His highlights are buff colored and he has a single comb, meaning his mother only had only one copy of the rose comb gene. The other two cockerels in the bunch were more flighty and harder to catch. So I didn't take pictures of them.

Oh man. There's an Agway by me, and I have been emailing the lady that owns it begging her to get Seramas and D'Uccles (I already told DH last night "I am getting more chickens and I don't care what you say!"). They have their chick schedule on their website and I am dying....they have all these funky breeds.
Their tagline is "Jersey's Best Place to Pick Up Chicks," lol!
I noticed the hyacinths in front of my apt are starting to sprout. I swear they do it every year about this time.We have tulips coming up and the trees are budding. Grass is green, so is the moss...
There are several people on byc with seramas, so you should be able to get some good info from them.
I'm out with DD#4 getting her drivers knowledge test done so she can get her learners permit so I can teach her to drive. It will be an interesting experience, especially considering the vehicle she'll be driving is a 2000 ford explorer under the mercury mountaineer name. It's the fun one that rocks and rolls more than it should, cuz that's just how that year, make and model is. I'm rather nervous about her driving it, but it's the only option at the moment. It's also our spare vehicle, so hopefully she's a good driver. She'll get her permit on Monday, and we'll go out driving at night when there's less traffic and more room in case of mistakes.

Nice!I got my new glassesView attachment 1260881
Same.. I don't click on the videos and I try to skip the detailed talk.. I know the gist of the process, but I'm not about to start doing it so I don't need to know about it.Sticking fingers in my ears (and covering my eyes)!!!!
(singing: LALALALALALALALALALA!!!!!)
Yeah, yeah, I know, you guys eat 'em...me, I put a diaper on them and let them run around the house when DH is working/clueless).
I let 5 of mine out today for some supervised free-ranging (it was 57 glorious degrees out!) and they went crazy picking at the little green things and random blades of grass that were sprouting. Scratching around in the piles of leaves, and jumping in my lap, for mealies. And nobody flew away, or got carried off by a hawk.![]()
I always wondered who bought those smoke scented candles... I know I've seen them at walmart & target... which are MUCH cheaper than the $300 5 wick candle. I haven't seen one that smells like winter, but I totally understand what you mean.I want a candle that smells like winter and smoke from a fireplace
This candle really does smell like fresh washed laundry. Perfect for a spring day. I don't really like flowery scents, so this one is nice. https://diamondcandles.com/collections/flash-sale/products/sunwashed-ring-candle They're kind of expensive, but it's fun b/c of the ring.We live almost right across the street from a family owned meat processor plant, but they don't do chickens, only the big stuff. I am hoping to raise a couple piggies and then walk them across the street for processing.
My favorite scent on the planet is regular Gain laundry detergent. Seriously. I make bed powder with that scent. Once we start making soap, I'm gonna make Gain scented soap. And candles.... to me it is JUST really clean and fresh smelling as far as laundry soaps go.
I can't stand it either b/c my mom used it to wash my nephew's pee clothes but it never totally covered the smell so now all I can smell is covered pee smell. We usually use all free & clear b/c my tiny human, but I loves me some candles. I have wayyyyyy too many and probably won't even use them all up before I die.Gain
bleh! Can’t stand gain. Then again I use unscented/fragrance free everything.
I’d love to get my hands on a eucalyptus menthol candle. Gold Canyon used to make one and they stopped for some reason.
Baby powder should be mostly talc Smuv....maybe it’s not anymore.
With my luck I'd end up w/ one of those chickens and it'd be my kid's favorite. Plus there's the whole thing about making sure you caught it soon after it died so all that death stuff didn't ruin the carcass (or the other birds eat it before you get it out).I can’t process my birds either. I’ve skimmed over the posts about doing it. I was hoping they would all die of old age. I agree, total respect for those of you who can.
I used to joke that I could only have a pet snake if it would eat steak. Could someone breed chickens that live 18 months and fall asleep to not wake up?
He doesn't look too bad. How's the other guy? Hopefully the worst is over for us. I saw that one night this week we're supposed to get down to 12 over night (which is probably more like 5 in the real world).. but many nights are in the 20-30 range. Hopefully it stays that way. It can snow, just as long as it doesn't get cold again.View attachment 1261817
I did skip a few steps before flouring for frying---
Looked like a crime scene. Frost bitten last bit of his comb was pulled off. Of course bleeds like there is no tomorrow. (If I didn't get it stopped there might not have been) Of course shook his head and splattered it all over the coop, me, the kitchen....
I floured him after quite a while of pinching it to try and stop it. Poor boy.
They'll just bring their own knives with them. You need to get a metal detector for your door.Remind me never to invite you or Molpet to my house and if I ever do I'm hiding my hatchet and knives
My tiny human has pre-syncope. The heart dr told her to squeeze her butt cheeks when she gets dizzy, or squat down b/c it makes your body push the blood back up to your heart. Hopefully once your body gets used to it you'll be healed! My new BP medicine is kicking my arse, so pretty much stayed in bed all day, super tired and hurt all over.
On the flip side, my BP is way down and no more headache!![]()
Fly paper? I mean, I know it's not very fancy.. but it might do the job.. they also make fly paper sheet thingies. Maybe stick it up inside the lamp shade to catch them, then toss it after a few days.I am so over having stink bugs in the house! If i sit on the sofa, they land on me because i am near the light. I went up to water seedling plants and there were about 10 danged stink bugs crawling around because of the lights and moisture. Every night i have to catch these things because it stinks too much to squash them! I am thinking of putting a baking pan of water out under a light so they can drown in it.
Where are you ordering them from? They should give you an idea on their site about the timeline, but you should def get an email from the hatchery letting you know when they ship with an ETA. Are they being delivered to your home, or you post office? If it's your post office I'd give them a call and let them know to expect them in and to call your parents asap to go pick them up. Hopefully it'll be a warmer week when they ship. You should be able to sign up for text alerts for the delivery if it's coming to the post office. Not sure about home delivery.Morning squatchers!!
