Evening all... one of the posts I read made me want to talk about my turkeys... didn't quote it and can't remember which... So here goes. ALL of the boys are hormonal. I have three groups. Adults, teens and young teens. The young teens are strutten for the chickens and ducks who are like: What you doing that for? The teens are strutten for the female turkeys who are ignoring them. I've got one laying the rest aren't ready yet. One of my teens decided to have his way with the layer who promptly kicked his butt. Unlike chickens and ducks, where rape is a normal occurrence, turkey's are civilized and the girl get's to choose. I had four wild girls setting for my teenage boys who were looking at each other: "What do we do?" the girls got pissed and just left.

Been up and outside ALL day. Decided to work IN the run, since we're supposed to have rain coming. Raked the hay all over. Removed the dust bath, as it had pretty much *cemented* itself up, put a cable spool in the corner. Took out the sawhorse roost. Built a roost out of a slated foot board from a twin bed and nailed legs to it. Also, drug a HUGE branch inside. These chickies are SO happy!

Built 2 of the 4 raised beds we have the wood for. Planted white beets, golden beets and red beets into one. Lettuces, dragon stir fry mix, spinach, kale and purple snow peas in the other. All of this joins our nicely growing strawberry plants (26). YIPPEE.


Edit to Add: ALSO had to hit Kroger, as we bought corned beef last week yet woke up this morning and had FORGOTTEN today was St Paddy's Day!!! Bad Irish Smuvvie!! HAd to grab some cabbage and little taters.

First Saint Patty day as long as I can remember didn't have corned beef. Lost track of the days...

you better keep it incase you need it again.
I think I am going to try the more natural ways with sulfur and wood ash dust baths before I get the big chem guns out. The chickens will use the dust baths.. I'll have to do the 3 turkeys since all they are thinking about is strutting, laying eggs and not dust bathing

This time of year is crazy for the turkeys.... They are so hormonal.

Scratch is basically candy. S&P feed is different. And who hasn't met a girl who likes candy?:oops:
 
Does this look like a Broody to you guys? This afternoon Loki was in and out of the coop going to the nest after we open the door to let them all out. Then she plopped her egg out by the door and then went outside like normal. A little while later she was going back in and looking in the nest frantically like she was missing something. So I took her egg and put it back in the nest and then she went and she sat on it and didn't get up until I tossed some scratch down on the floor. I took the egg again while she was eating and later she was sitting on the roost like everybody else. But is this the pancaking everybody talks about with broodies?

IS SHE BROODY?
 
By the time i got to the swap today all they had left was one male turkey. Not a good buddy for my lone quail, i named her Solo. She has tons of room in the quail hutch. It really is depressing lifting all those poor dead quail out of the box. I made the post office guy look at them. The pussy actually covered his nose and mouth with his shirt!
