I know i remember you can’t have roosters. My girls feathers have really filled out full and thick. I usually make soup or tacos of the cockerels but he is too pretty to eat and could bring a few dollars

Ok, I've tried using a vet wrap band around its legs and taping its feet. It now has its feet under its body but they are still VERY far forward. It is doing better with trying to toddle about. Its umbilical looks fine now. The chick has been hatched for about 24 hours now. I don't want to put it with my other chicks in the brooder just yet. So it is in the incubator for now. Is a little nutridrench ok if I'm still not feeding and watering?

It needs to eat after 24 hours.

At the swap, i think people will start showing up at daylight. Already bought a rabbit and an Incubator. Ordered turkey poults and tolbunt polish....and looking for hatching eggs...

Good morning everyone. Last night went MUCH better than expected. My method of night weaning recommends I start off by letting him nurse for a couple of minutes, but putting him down before he falls completely asleep. I keep this up for 3 nights and then move to just cuddling without feeding when he wakes up. 3 nights after that, I move to just patting and reassuring him that I'm there, but don't cuddle or feed him. Last night was the first night of the training. He woke up around midnight, I fed him for a few minutes and said "All done, go lay down." and he laid down between me and DH and went right to sleep and didn't wake up until 6:30 this morning. That was the longest stretch of sleep I've had in a good while. Hopefully the rest of training goes just as well.

Here is a video of the hobbled chick. I just gave it some food, which it didn't show any interest in and I'm going to be going out every hour or so to give it a drink. I'm not sure it is coordinated enough to drink or eat on its own. We'll see how it goes.

@Redhead Rae I’ve never dealt with this but I wonder if a chick sling might work? You could even pull it’s legs into position under it. Hobble them closer to the body to pull the hips in maybe?

I think you may be on to something. I think this chick has its hocks rotated out.

Cool! Iove strange chickens. And I am getting better still crazy sore though.

Barred Holland chickens. They are critically endangered.
