I compromised on the cereal......
Cinnamon toast crunch!
:gig
I had some more "healthy" cereal, some type of organic flakes with blue berries in it. It was a Kashi brand.

The toasted home made bread was very good though--honey on it

Good afternoon! Lulu seemed to enjoy her sweater last night, this morning she was completely drawn up in it. I just had a purple lump with feet on the roost. Everybody else was disturbingly chipper. Jumping around, running for no reason, short happy clucks....scares the taters out of me when they're like that! Lol! Even Lulu was slightly happier, saw her eat pretty well, she's got purple fuzz stuck all over her though looks like a bad Prince impersonator.:gig

chickens are very silly!

It started raining and weather is supposed to be nicer tomorrow so fence is going to wait. Instead I moved Chicken City.

Hopefully they will get more acclimated to the weather before going outside. I also tried to give Egret, the only standard size hen of the group, a little more room. She does good with the others but isn’t taking confinement well. She seems to get annoyed that she can’t get out and pecks the nearest chicken.

I left these two in the basement. They were separated until I spilled Cream Puffs water soaking the box she was set up in.

I’m still so worried about Mareks. Has anyone delt with it? I have a video I wanted someone to look at.
It fits but it doesn’t. The ages are wrong. And Gladys is from Rural King. I tried to find out if the hatchery they use vaccinates. I’m mostly chasing my tail.

Nunny even if they're vaccinated they can still spread it even though they're not sick themselves. Kind of a chickeny typhoid Mary.

Deep breath Nunny. Absolutely no need to panic. As for your question about Marek's...
My dad has it in his flock....and I think maybe Cappy has dealt with it?

BUT I am with Ron that the ages being so wrong for Marek's is a big strike against that. Not an expert by any stretch but I am very skeptical of it being Marek's.
Also if Gladys had it, she should have either recovered or severely declined by now. The paralysis tends to progress relatively rapidly as I recall once they loose the use of one leg. So hang in there Nunny! I know this is awful and stressful, but I don't think you have Marek's and even if you did, it isn't a death sentence for the full flock. My dad lost the Speckled Sussex in his little flock before they hit POL, but his Australorps are all thriving.

So seriously DO NOT PANIC. You and your chickens are gonna get through whatever this is. And we Squatchers will support you the whole way.

Hope Cream Puff feels better soon. I am sure she appreciates the extra warmth and attention. Give her a hug (and some fish!) from all of us.

They will get sick with the vaccine. The Vaccine is designed to lower the percentage of cancer at year two. Studies show about a 2% decrease in cancer from mareks infection. It cuts the percentage in half--4 to 7% get cancer after mareks. Two to five% with the vaccine.

It is not a very effective vaccine

Nope, but they sure make it sound good.
