There was an Segment on NPR about backyard farming in suburbs bringing in Norway Rats from the City. I call BS on that!

Here in California, Norway rats infested an orchard in the Country. Norway rats are just increasing in numbers, likely due to a change in climate and or weather patterns. With all of the extinctions going on it could also be lack of predators

We get spraying skunks here in the summer which makes me mad b/c I'll have the windows open and they spray and it wakes me and I have to run around shutting windows... but I don't go waking everyone in the house so they can get a whiff.

Oh malarkey, backyard farming has nothing to do with increased rats. Increased human population means more rats, period. Nobody thinks about all the back to back houses all with pet dishes and rubbish bins and lord only knows how many of those households are also "unconventional" at their housekeeping methods. But yeah, sure it has to be some little chicken coops and box gardens making the population boom.:caf

Exactly!

Here in Woodland, they come from the Grain Silo by the Rail Road Tracks, into the field and on to the rest of the City and County. I had an infestation of the several years ago

Sure! But it'll have to be a long distance parentage b/c I live in an apt.. can't have chickens here.

I blame my rat problem on the elderly-ness of my cat. Zoey used to kill things all the time, but now she's old and barely even hunts & Jasmine's gone now. I've seen Tubbs out looking, but I don't think he's able to keep them down.

Speaking of rats... my big rat trap disappeared. I was worried it had gotten Tubbs, but we've seen him since. There was 2 smaller traps on each side of it, surrounding a hole, but only the big one is gone. I should have staked it down, but I didn't think it'd completely disappear. I just hope it didn't get a bun.

And We have a new addition to our family. A new ham, no name yet though:
