I do not know what a farm gas line is. Is it a natural gas line into the farm and then split to the houses?

If so that is easily solved! You just need a new gas distribution setup. It would be much less expensive than running propane
 
When I lived with propane ......
a leased tank was fillable only by who it was leased from.

That stunk at times.......oh I could :rant about it but.....

Yes definitely find out about a wood stove. Even if you don't need it often it really comes in handy if power goes out or propane delivery is not coming in time.

ETA: if power goes out the forced air wont work. No power to run the blower.

They are lines coming from wells on the properties nearby and going to the gas company that is leasing the rights. My parents have 3 wells on their property, one of which works great. They don't own the mineral rights but get free gas up to a certain amount from the wells.

Our property doesn't have a well and the gas line that runs through our property (well more like OVER, because it isn't really buried) is on a low pressure well.

I'm seriously considering just getting tanks that we can take to have refilled ourselves. I'll have to see what is possible.

I said
“WAIT! Let me get this straight. So she wants you to drive 35 minutes each way to a house that isn’t set up for a baby, to babysit a brand newborn AND two senior citizens PLUS be the cook and housekeeper.........
For $10/hr.

Uh, that’s a hell no from me.

That's a Pat Crow NO! $10 isn't enough for the multiple jobs she listed if they were individual jobs! A home health nurse, which it sounds like they need, is easily $25 an hour and doesn't take care of anything but the patient. New born baby is $20 an hours roughly and cleaning is at least $15! So if they lady would like to pay $70 an hour, I added for gas and travel time, then maybe...but still probably Pat Crow NO!

It seems like propane is the best choice then. You may be lucky and have a good service in your area

You could look into a dual use furnace. Something that can take wood pellets, or coal, or corn cobs...
The old house was originally an oil furnace but they retrofitted a coal furnce to the same ductwork. We could use one or the other.
