I am up too.

Morning everyone. :frow

We should have a nice sunny day here. :)

I need to remind myself not to plant just yet. We also have snow forecast for late in the week.

It is interesting seeing how the peas are growing in the different soil mixtures. I am not sure exactly what is in each but they are definitely happier in one bed.

:frow It normally takes me about three years to grow good soil, but I think I'm there already after two. My beds are loaded with earth worms. Wonder if the chickens made the difference?

I really think they do make a huge difference.
The garden space I have dumped coop cleanings in when fall hits and let overwinter is full of worms too.
When I first started a garden there and for several years after I never saw earthworms.

The long bed we amended won't be tilled again. I have topped it with grass clippings and plan to keep doing that and compost. I bet we will see worms in there before long.
Today's coop cleanings are headed for the compost pile.
We used everything I had so starting that all over.

Happy Monday!!!

Last fall I took the fence down and the girls went crazy in the raised beds. That was their favorite spot to hang out. Then I let the weeds take over them. They weren't too difficult to pull this spring, but all three beds are loaded with worms and fence is back up.
should be a great garden!

I have given up counting. Between the turkeys ducks and chickens I get probably 40 plus. Almost all are fed back to the birds here. We actually don't eat many eggs, and in not interested in selling them.
How do you feed the eggs to them? Cooked, raw? When mine were on the wormer I felt like I was feeding them too much egg. I just cooked them scrambled in a big pot.

I hard boil them then chop or smash them, shells and all. I like boiled because they keep well in the fridge so I don't have to give the chickens all the eggs at once if I don't want to.

ETA: We are starting to get over-run here too. This weekend we gave a couple dozen away, and I boiled a couple dozen more. Hubby loooves hard-boiled eggs...if I cook and shell them for him  Since everyone else (humans and chickens) was getting egg to eat I gave some to Tad the dragon too. She loved them. I think she has a new favorite food :p

I went to TSC this weekend to use my 10% off for feed and hardware cloth. My trash panda keeps trying to get into the run & it's just chicken wire. It's made it 2 years.. I've blocked off that part of the run and threw some grass seed in there so it's at least getting some grass from the process. The hardware cloth I wanted is only online so now I have to wait til they get it in (free shipping to store). I just have that section of the run that needs the hardware cloth around it, but I want to put some around the bottom edge of the rest of the run. The birds are digging around the edges and it's making a space that something could get through. It's like they want something to kill them.
Ash is broody. She threatened me yesterday, full turkey. The night before she was glued to the nest even though I took all the eggs. She threatened Klaus when she looked at her. She wasn't sitting on the nest this am, so I'm hoping maybe she's broken.. We'll see tonight. My daughter says I'm mean and I should give her some eggs. Anything that hatches will be a William baby. No thank you.
Both kids has a puking contest last night. I got sick cleaning up after the first one. It was a long night. Hopefully they're better after this. They're getting into the end of year exams.

Oh, that's a good idea, and much less work. I kept the shells for them anyway, but this way I can just mash them up. I've got a bunch in my fridge right now. Might as well feed them to the birds.
