Going to be another HOT day here.

:woot The mud is gone!

A brief update on the strawberry thingy. They ARE growing but are sending out TONS of runners instead of producing. :hmm
I am debating moving them to an in ground location.
I have lumber to build a raised box or two. :caf
Now just where to put them.

These are hardy cranes bill. They will NOT overwinter in pots so I am working on getting a box built for them too. Super pretty mounding habit with tons of pink/lavender flowers all summer. They are salvaged from the butterfly garden.

I know. I can only tell you what I found when reading up on Prescott chicken (animal) law. It was pretty interesting, obviously not updated recently!:lau
And you don't dare mention it b/c someone w a stick up their butt will start making suggestions.

I'm stalling.
Today is clean the coop or at least the majority floor and roosts.
Anyway iv'e got sucky hay that I hate dealing with.
50lb compressed bale, dumb plastic torture device handle and it is bound with I think three tight pain in the butt to cut plastic bands.
Got to get it from the porch to the coop then fight with it.
Not rearing to go for some reason.:hmm
I wish I'd seen this yesterday... I use that same straw b/c I like it better than the field stuff in the summer (shorter pieces and it being in a bag keeps the heathens from spreading the entire bale throughout the coop prematurely.)
Anyway... I transport the bale using a dolly. Then I use a box cutter to cut the plastic bands, or I open up a pair of scissors and use one blade to saw through. The bands are too tight to get under to cut normally. I tear open one short side of the bag and pull out what I need, then shove that end against the cage I have in the coop to keep it closed. I store my straw in the coop, so I keep it out so they can use it as a step to get up to the nesting boxes and be by the window.

Got the old hay out plus everything in the big and middle coop section just got to sweep, debug, and put back hay and stuff.
I'm taking a break, got hot and sweaty crap is biting me unknown if bugs are real or imaginary.
Nature kept creeping in close too.
Coop had skinks, I heard my chain link fence rattle so I looked.
Normally rattle is a chicken where it shouldn't be, today though it was a fawn so there is a fawn in the yard.
Who needs a zoo? :lau

Pat gets to tap some death layer booty, that sounds kind of dangerous actually.:gig
Those are some brave skinks. Do your birds eat them?

Snuggling is fine. I'm way past an intervention! LOL

So I found out how much another chicken breeder in my area makes breeding. I was shocked. And not to sound rude or judgy but I think I could do better.

So the lady I was helping had death layers and I fell in love with their look. The opportunity to get these chicks sort of fell in my lap and so I took it as a sign to go for it. Then another lady has some barnavelder that are bred from Greenfire stock. She needs to downsize and "you'll give them such a good home. You can have them." How do I say no to that!?!
Wow. So are we seeing a new coop in your future? You could build 1 coop & divide it down the middle inside & put a run off each side to keep the breeds separated.

Hi guys!

I got 2 blood transfusions and I’m feeling a lot better. They want to give me IV iron as well, but I’m not so sure about that.

The Milk Drinker is doing great.
Glad to hear you're both doing well. Have a safe trip home today!

We have strawberry plants but I've only seen a single tiny berry on one... I'm guessing the late start + all the rain has slowed them down.
Beautiful plants! Bees and butterflies must love your yard.

Last night Nibbler was acting weird. I picked her up and she looked like she was having issues w/ her vent. I wiped away some gross stuff and thought maybe she was having a yeast issue. I didn't feel an egg though things seemed to be protruding a bit, but she was mad so I let her go. Then a few minutes later she was standing there and a split soft shell egg started coming out. I pulled it out and another piece followed. Then the egg whites & yolk. Of course everyone went after the yolk and white [ew.. that just came out of her butt!]. Nibbler grabbed the shells and took off. [double ew]. I managed to get part of them from her but she ate the rest while being chased down by a mob. Then she stood in the yard for a good while before finally acting normal again. Not sure what caused the egg issue, but she seemed fine when I left. I made sure they had oyster shell in the feeder.
Loki was lying in the nesting box when I got there and I thought she was dead. She was so flat and still I thought she'd died there from the heat, but she was just dedicated. I threw her out of the coop and shut the door so she kept running around the coop and run trying to find a way back in. At least she got to eat, drink and move around a bit though.

Rene is laying again after her broodiness. I missed my little psycho eggs.:D
Ugh, that hay. I decided to cut the bag so it still remained a bag but I could get to those bands, used wire cutters snipped them.
Peeled off some hay, shoved it in a feed bag and took it to the coop.
Left the bale on the porch, it is safer there anyway.
Really I don't think they know about the coop skinks. I didn't know, they were in the hay so I don't think they ever saw them.
There is a tree frog they're very aware of, it stays just out of reach apparently it is a jerk. ;)
