Official Squatch Watchers

I lost the last hatched chick. I thought it might die. The hobbles I had on it overnight seemed to help but it still had weird toes and it's balance was off. The other 14 are really lively and healthy.

Oh the upside, the two keets have their feet under them and seem really stable. Their feet also straightened out. I hadn't gotten around to hobbling or giving them boots yet, but they are fine now! I did give them a dose of straight Nutridrench. I swear by that stuff!
Sorry you lost one. I found one this morning that didn't make it.

This little one has the cutest spots!

My hatching story turned into a saga. They started hatching earlier then expected but not out of normal range. Quite a few hatched then were stomping around the incubator like godzilla so I had to pull them out. Once I opened it temp and humidity went haywire on me. Higher then both should be. Pull the second humidity port plug and temp would drop but humidity would go up! It had been stable the whole time till hatching started. So Lila Broody Queen has been sitting on golf balls because I was going to give her babies. Bring her in, settle her on her golf balls, then trade those for eggs. She took the eggs. Rolled them under and did the broody shuffle. I go back to check on her an hour or so later. Find 2 screaming chick's that she refuses to sit on and cold eggs! She got up and left them. So I grab the babies and the eggs and run everything back to the incubator. It's up to temp and humidity still and stable... 3 more hatch. Right now I'm up to 19 babies and 1 more pipped. I think I lost the others in all the back and forth. 🙁 Had to help the last 2 out as they were zipped but couldn't get traction to push themselves out. No blood and all yolk absorbed so that was good. And little miss Lila laid an egg...that she didn't sit on either.

I do have a question for anyone who would like to guess. I've rudely named this one Igor.

It's one eye is bulging. I don't think it got pecked. It always keeps it closed. I'm not sure if it can see out of it. Doesn't squawk or get upset when I look at it and open the eye lid. Runs around, eats, poops.... any thoughts?
Genetic defect? Hatching issue? Wait and see?

Sorry for how hard your hatch went. When you open the lid does it seem to be able to see out of that eye? To test it, hold the lid open with two fingers and bring another finger towards the eye quickly. If it tries to blink or flinches in reaction to the movement, it can see with that eye. If not, there might be an infection behind the eye.

I always use Terramycin for eye issues.
