Official Squatch Watchers

So, We've been having trouble finding guinea clutches recently. After we found the 25 egg clutch on Monday, I had a brain wave, put some falsies in the nest so the guineas continue to lay there. We cleared the nest and added 7 falsies. Yesterday there were 3 fresh eggs in the nest. Today, there were 5. I think our trick worked! I think we have at least 5-6 hens in the group since we got 5 eggs in one day. No wonder why the fertility has been poor. We one have 1-2 males.

Cleaning quietly to not wake dogs! LOL!

Yup.... 🤫 type cleaning. Even wringing my rags out quiet like.

Yeah, because I am fussy and they must be purebred and they must be spotted.

Yup. I’ve got my replacements coming from a different hatchery. I would just sell eggs. However since the fertility is so low, I feel bad about selling them.

I think that you are hatching them out is great. I know if I got hatching eggs and none hatched I would be very sad. This way folks are getting the keets without the "will it hatch" worries.

I hope to be selling ducklings next year.

Next year, I intent to have at least 2 pairs/trios penned up together so I can sell their eggs, confident that they are fertile. One guinea cock can't cover as many hens as a rooster can.

Guineas generally pair up for the season. So one to one ratio.
