Get a fake owl. Working well for us so far.

Aart has a picture of a hawk sitting on a fake owl.

Owl scared my chickens at first. It kept hawks away until I forgot to move it. I was moving it every few days. I hadn't moved it for over a week when they came back to the yard. They ignore it now.

That is what I would expect here.

You could try the first thing I try with the hens before doing anything too traumatic for both sides.
I just squirt a little lube up there,something safe like KY.
It is surprisingly efficient.

One of my quail hens seems egg bound. I haven’t seen an egg from her in a few days and have noticed her bottom looks bigger. I just caught her laying on the ground looking like she was trying to lay. I caught her and took a look. Don’t know what I should be seeing, but it looked like a meaty looking eye with no eyeball. That’s the best way I can explain it. How do I help her?

I seem to have missed researching these things before I got into birds.
I couldn’t find anything for quail specifically, but did see this information also. We just gave her the warm bath and tums mixed with water. Most of it is still left over. I did get a picture though it seems to have gotten a little worse. Is this egg bound or a prolapse? She has been stressed by being handled.
It did finally go back in. I massaged her belly towards the back, but didn’t feel anything hard like I would think I should if there were an egg.

I didn’t see this until now. What about petroleum jelly or coconut oil?

What is that part I’m pointing at? It looks like a vent...but then the other red thing wouldn’t be...unless she has two???

If the red swollen thing is her vent I would say prolapse. They can do that trying to get an egg out. So there could be an egg in there.

We have her separated still. I’m totally at a loss here.
How would I know there’s an egg? She hasn’t laid in a few days. It took a bit to figure out who hasn't been laying.
How long can she be kept separate before they forget her and think shes new when she goes back?

I am absolutely NOT an expert in anything really. I do know 2 vents is not normal. To me the bright red looks like a very angry injury. I would be putting Neosporin on that....but I am in no way an expert at all.
I would definitely be keeping her separate as red generally draws very unwanted attention from beaks.

Good morning everyone. Lots and lots to do today. Of course it is all controlled by what hours this and that are open. I am an early bird and just want to get it all done but must wait til things open or the noise ordinance says it is ok to make noise. All that is 3.5 hours away.
