***OKIES in the BYC III ***

woohoo! One hatching when I got up this morning, just a large pip at this point, but he's acting more like I would expect a hatching chick to act! Yeah!! Hope they all get out today so I can watch them hatch!

I closed out of BYC, went to my computer, on internet options, I dumped all the temporary files, cached, etc., then set the pop up blocker to allow BYC, seems to have worked without having to use a different browser than Internet Explorer.
Got chickens ?

I'll try that when I get home (or actually I'll tell Gary that's what I need done)

Good Morning Everyone!

Kass: sorry to read about the hatchery drama.. I hope all is well now

Sooner: Gosh looking at those shirts makes me POOP sick...

Citiclucks: Just keep the dog you know she will keep you warm in the winter and shady in the summer

On the home front:

Since we finally closed on the house(19th March) the kids and I have been busy

I ordered 25 chicks from Murray Mc Murray couple weeks ago and with the chicks I was wanting they wont be able to ship the whole order until May 21... I was like dang chicks are going quick.

Sissy is still working the stables and I have realized it is time for her to learn the basics of driving..

Austin (on his own) has really taken to try and be the man of the house while dad is deployed and at times its fun to watch him try and talk big... and be serious... but it is nice to see him want to care for me his mom and be protective over his sissy and what needs to be done on the house...

Some of my fellow Friends recently signed up on BYC and I dont know their screen name yet but I hope they find the OKIES in the BYC as I think they would enjoy getting to know each and everyone of you and will be able to attend the POOPS... Their names are Britany and Charles... Great people.

Well I best skeedaddle You guys have a wonderful rest of the weekend.

I notice my Ameraucana has a lot of yellow on him. Is that normal for a blue??? I have only seen solid color chicks. And I have 4 more pips!!! All Silkies.

He may be a Splash; will end up white with blue/grey spots - very pretty birds!

Today, my little Americauna girl layed her first egg since I got her 2 weeks ago.

Someone posted this on FB, I'll have to remember this next time I make deviled eggs for a gathering.

Those are the cutest deviled eggs I have ever seen! Obviously, the orange beek is a carrot sliver, but are the black eyes a part of a raisin or something else?

Looking for a few hens in OKC. Does anyone know where I might be able to find some? This will be our first time raising chickens and I am super excited. The coop is built and ready to go, just need to find some chickens. I have done lots of research but any advice would be great. Thank you :)

You have found a wonderful group of folks who would love to enable you into acquiring many more chickens than your very nice coop can hold. Of course, some of us are in awe that you build the coop first and are acquiring chickens after the coop is built. I am one of those without that kind of restraint.

Bill - Princess sounds like an intelligent dog. If she can conceal her egg habit from you, then she is trainable. You'll just have to be diligent. She knows right from wrong in this situation, otherwise she wouldn't be hiding to eat the eggs. Let us know how you decide to break her of this habit.

Nana - Thanks for posting the pictures of your garden. I'd love to build some raised beds... maybe next year. This year all my seed went into the ground in traditional rows. I am still working out the details for a rabbit proof fence (This is where you're supposed to laugh), and I figure I have about seven or eight more days before that project must be complete. I can see a few cucumber plants coming through the soil. The rest of my veggies will be up looking for sunshine soon.
I would beinterested in learning how to break a dog from eating eggs. I don't think my dog does it very often, but Jaxon's dog likes to find any that are in the bushes and carry them to the middle of the yard, where she tries to crack them open and eat them.

If anyone has suggestions for a rabbit proof fence, I would love the hear them. Two of my "domestic" rabbits have been on the loose for several months and are getting the blame for chewing on the garden plants right after Hubby put them into the ground. I have live traps set up to try and catch them, but with an abundance of straw, grass and available water, they are not tempted to come into a cage to get some apple.
