My speckled Sussex lay smallest egg next smallest would be my Buff Orpington then the Lavender Orpington, next the Buckeye, then the Easter Eggers and Dominique's, and the rest of my breeds are pretty close in size. (the Midnight Majesty Marans, Calico Princess and Black and White Jersey Giants)
Surprisingly I think my Australorps might be laying small eggs haha but they’re also pretty old and I also can’t be sure. The Orpington lays a pretty small egg but not as small as these ones haha I do think the Sussex might be laying small eggs too though. My EEs actually lay pretty good size eggs. They’re smaller than the Leghorns eggs but still pretty good size and one of them actually lays HUGE eggs even bigger than the Leghorn haha they’re consistently wayyyy XL. To me the others are more smaller/medium but technically a large on the scale I think ha but even medium they’re pretty good size. I get mostly pretty good sized eggs but definitely a few teeny ones too haha I want to separate some of the girls and see what egg they pay 😂🤣

I had to do a lot of watching to catch who was laying what egg. One of my Black Jersey Giants should be hatching out some eggs in a couple of days. Funny thing is my Black Jersey Giant hens are the smallest hens I have, they are little runts! The one setting on eggs is my friendliest chicken I have, I call her my little girl. When she is not nesting she follows me every place. She gets very impatient with me if I don't pick her up and carry her around. She would stay in my arms all day if she could. She will tug on my pants leg until I do pick her up. She is also intelligent enough to not go to the bathroom on me. And I know for sure she holds back because there have been times I have set her down and she has went to the bathroom instantly. She has never ever made a mess on me. I brought her in the house one day and she slept on me for 2 hours while I watched TV. She also likes to snuggle her head in my hair. I love her so much!

On another note, I have thought about getting some Houdans or Crevecours. Have you ever had any of these breeds?

Yeah I had to do a lot of watching too which is how I figured out mine haha but others I still don’t know!! And especially now that some are getting older and the eggs are changing a bit haha

OMG she sounds amazing!!! I had a Buff Orpington that was very very friendly and loved to held and petted. Very sweet and gentle too. :love

One of my Australorps likes to be held sometimes but sometimes she’s not in mood haha

That’s hilarious your girl is so small though!!!

And I have not had either of those breeds unfortunately but they seem like good ones!!

My English Orpingtons certainly mature slower than other breeds. I do have one American-type Lavender pullet who I think laid her first egg a couple of days ago and she's almost a year old. My Silver-laced, White, Black, and Chocolate pullets laid much earlier than that though.

Oh wow that’s a long time!! Haha and yeah, it’s weird, my Buffs all matured pretty quickly from what I recall. Maybe it’s partially because he’s a rooster? They’re probably bigger anyway? But one of my buffs even started laying before any of the other chickens haha they’re all from the same hatchery though so I assume none are true English or show quality or anything but yet he is huge. They’re from Meyer Hatchery.

Jack finally mated a hen today. :lau

Only his girlfriend/hatch mate Wilma but still.

Now if only he would crow and stop being scared of the other girls. :lau

But it’s a start lol
