Pigeon Talk

So this baby is from the egg you thought was rotten? Or no?
I love my seramas, so thanks for sharing! Congrats on the hatch! Any more left to hatch?
I’m going to set a bunch of seramas, bantam cochins, cream legbar, and olive egger eggs this weekend.
No it's not from the egg I though was rotten it was the egg beside it.

So did you take the rotten egg out to protect the rest of the incubating eggs? It read like you didn't, but I'm not sure if I just misread that or not, lol.

er way... while holding the bird securely, GENTLY run your fingers along the keel bone back toward the vent. The bone separates toward the back there. In a hen, the gap will be wider. In a cockbird, the gap will be more
I tried this some time ago and did not feel I could discern the gender. Based on your post I tried again and this time I am quite confident that I can. Thank you!:)

Well I just tried feeling down the keelbone towards the back end of the pigeon regarding sexing. I can definately feel the difference between a hen and a cock. Squeak and papa2 were not impressed but I'm sure that I can now feel the difference for sure. :yaThe place that I felt was almost as far back as there feet when I'm holding them. I will check the rest at the weekend.
Me too! :woot

Trip laid her second egg today!!! :ya :wee
Yay!:celebrate

Yay! 17-18 days till squabs!!! Keep us posted!

Yay! March 2nd-3rd.

Alright. I'll try tommorrow. I could figure out the sexes on 2 youngsters!

Does it work on young ones, or do they have to be closer to a hens laying age? I’m thinking the bone doesn’t widen until a female gets closer to laying, but I could be wrong.
