Pigeon Talk

Yay! Sorry about the other eggs.
They could turn around but I'm not convinced. I think it may still be a bit early for neville. He still learning! If not I'll try again in a few months.
Go Boomer!:yesss: Great avatar!:)
I sat in the garden in the best place with the blue sky for ages to get that! My arm ached after a while but I love it! The weather is so good over here at the moment. I don't think it will last though.

In general circumstances the chickens can easily peck a sitting pigeon to death.:hit
WV points out the importance of the flock dynamics.
At one time,, I housed my 2 bantams and a blind EE together with my pigeon flock for the duration of winter. Rest of the chicken flock was in same loft area, but separated by wire screen. The regular chickens would have pecked to death my blind EE.
My pigeons, 2 Banties and Blind EE had no issues living together.
The rest of chicken flock had no access to do any harm.

Here are 2 pix from a long time ago. When I had my first pigeon, I kept my Serama with him for company. They stayed together in perfect harmony. Serama was a hen.
When I got more pigeons,,, Serama went back with the rest of my chickens.

How seeet! Pretty serama. I could see pigeons living with some seramas or OEGBs, possibly even silkies. (Maybe some pigeon smarts would rub off on the silkies! Lmao!)

Speckle, my broody came off her eggs earlier, so I jumped in with a torch to have a quick candle. She been on them for 8 days now. Well my 2 Maran eggs don't look like they are fertile. :( 1 of the araucana eggs looks a bit iffy :hmm but the last 3 araucana eggs are definately fertile! :yesss: (probably 3 cockerals!) I'll leave the other three for a couple more days and candle again. If there's nothing I'll remove them.
But on a plus there is now 2 eggs in with Boomer and Beau!

I set 51 chicken eggs in my cabinet last Saturday so I’m a day behind you. I checked some of the Marans eggs and they are just so tough to see in, I won’t pull them until probably next week when it should be more obvious.

Go Boomer and Beau! :clap

Pidgy bath day!

It really shows how they USE those feathers to steer and brake. The weather here is pretty awful, about 0°C and raining. I put the feeder inside the loft for the first time in ages. Fwi - I pulled the 4 eggs from my pair of hens last night and two of them had slight smudges of blood. I was a little sad bc I think dad is my ash red bar/split for blue cock and 50% of the babies should be ash red I think? Does that sound right @WVduckchick @Pyxis ?
OMG I have weather envy, big time!:lau

You'll get some more I'm sure. Its still early in the year yet!
I had to take my sweater off when I was cleaning the hens out! I got a right sweat on! I don't think we've seen the last of the bad weather though. It normally goes like this then the temps will drop. We had snow at Easter last year! :th

I haven’t had enough coffee. :p
Is the mother blue bar? Ash red is dominant, so I “think” the female offspring should all be ash red. Male offspring could be blue, or ash red carrying blue.

The cock is ash red split for blue( so he looks 'silver') and the moms are blue. My thoughts are- the hens get their color from dad only so half blue, half ash red. The cocks get a blue from mom and either ash red or blue from dad so again half red and half blue. The reds would be split for blue and the blues - homozygous.

Boomer and the gang say 'coo'! It's been absolutely fantastic weather today. 16c! Clear skies and no wind. They had a really good fly. The shot of Boomer was a total fluke! I just wish it had been a bit over to the side to get the blue sky behind him.
I love that avatar pic! Its really awesome! :love
Wish we had some nice weather.. :hmm

So sweet! :love
I agree, it has a lot to with dynamics. I have had and still have a mix of birds that supposedly dont do well with each other but do fine..:idunno
