Pigeon Talk

Next week my nephew is going to be helping me work on the lofts. I've got all the material and a bad back so I'm waiting on help.

Don't recommend breaking your back. Let alone three times in five years. I don't break horses anymore. Hah !

My new lens came in. Tamron 150-600 --- I'll be using it this weekend at the show. I really enjoy bird photography and have been chasing birds my whole life.

My old lens was just that. Old. Ten years of being thrown around and run through the elements. Sent it in for a cleaning but I'll probably retire it now.

Be glad y'all don't have these guys around. They hunt in teams.

Cute but deadly.

Lovely! Can’t wait to see what you come back with!

It's almost April and i haven't submitted anything to the magazine's I freelance for. I've been enjoying my newborn and not worrying about working photography. We've been having fun instead.

With 12's help next week we should get plenty done... He's been helping me build since he was 5. He helps my brother in the garage with the race cars. When he was 7 We spent his entire summer breaking down old barns and using the wood and tin to build our barn.

Can't wait to see what we get accomplished.

Nice! I bookmarked that post :)
Thanks for finding that.

Actually it went on very easily. I hope I didn’t get too large, but they stayed on. It might be more loose when they grow up, but I think it will be ok.
I ordered by the recommendation on the website, 10mm I believe, but I think I bought 8s in the clip ones.

Sporting the new ring. :)

Woohoo!! :ya
We’re all hoping they arrive safe and sound. :fl
Hmm. I dought that they were 10 mm. Because homers use 8mm. And rollers use 7mm. They aren't that big are they?

I just found this. Its more for babies but the same can be done for adults. I'm not sure I'd like to do it unless it was an absolute emergency.

Tube feeding is easy we do it when we have a puppy too weak to nurse. If you can get the right equipment and see if you can find a YouTube video. It’s scary but once you get it down it’s easy..

What are they? Amazing pictures!

WV asked if I would post this here; it's me tubing a tiny bantam chick that I got from a feed store that was dying. Tubing isn't hard and can even be done on tiny chicks. This little one is now doing really great.

With pups we measure the tube on the outside to know how far down to keep threading it.

I'm sure they are 10,s since they slipped on EZ. Must take into consideration that those pigeons have feathered feet. 8 mm would make the feathers more deformed on the legs.

I would consider it if she can't keep food down in the next day or so. I'm thinking you'd want to get parrot formula to do it, maybe even the special pigeon formula by Roudybush, but I'm not sure how long it would take to get to you.

You may also want to order a feeding tube, just in case. I'd do maybe a 14 fr size, since I feel like 18 fr might be too big.

I am wondering if special formula is needed. Wouldn't the same mixture I use to hand raise babies work? That is a mix of chicken pellets and water, blended to the consistency of ketchup?

Here's a video I took after feeding her. When she stands still and relaxes the head tilting isn't as bad. She's getting better at balancing with it but it has not gone away.
I think she will get better but it will take awhile.

That's good you have some help to build the loft. It's not worth hurting yourself. You take some really good pictures. Do you freelance for a wildlife magazine?
