Pigeon Talk

They don’t seem to mind the zero degrees nearly as much as I mind it. :p
Put on a Down Jacket, and you will be dressed just like them:)
Does she have a name? Do you think they were waiting to get their own place before starting the family? They are sweet looking birds and I bet they'll be good parents.
My only concern,,,, Did they go in front of The Justice O Da Peace:gig
I nearly forgot, it's my BYC birthday today! 1 year old!! :wee

Those things plus highly intelligent, super hilarious, witty, kind, generous, and a mind like a book! If I could remember half of what she has forgotten about raising birds, I’d be happy! Lol

I actually got to meet her (and Peg, the duck that hatched without a foot) in person a couple years ago.

Thankfully we don't get very cold here (78 deg on sat). I don't have confined breeding boxes yet. If my males and females (2 pairs) are just running around in there will they pair up and breed with out being confined? I saw some kissing on Saturday.
They will pair up without being confined. The individual nesting cubicles are such that it gives the pairs privacy from other pigeons. Sometimes other pigeons do hurt squabs, that are not their own. I noticed the aggression between adult males, and squab males. It seem the old farts don't want the young ones coming into the territory.

I do have two nesting boxes that I made. I put some pine needles in there over the weekend and noticed a pair sitting there instead of the perches. Fingers crossed. I have plywood so I'm looking to get a better loft built here soon.

Nat, your egg is making me jealous, lol!

About how old are pigeons usually when they start breeding? Since mine were hatched in 2018, should I expect that they will start breeding by spring? That is, as long as I do actually have a male and a female, sigh. I still can't really tell. I'm tempted to have them DNA sexed, lol.

Yep, by spring they should go into full breeding mode.:woot

I'm gonna try to get good pictures of them tomorrow and see if you guys can tell me what you think gender-wise. It's just hard because they're pretty flighty, so I don't know if they'll really hold still for me.
