Pigeon Talk

Old hens perhaps, but I have never had one. Generally the second egg is laid 48 hours after the first in the early evening.

Ah, maybe not until tonight, then. I'll have to check later. She's a 2017 bird, not sure if that counts as old for pigeons or not :p

Don't forget they may have sibs from a prev clutch.:p

Good point. I used to be able to tell them all apart, but have gotten too many young ones now. I have to check legbands. I suppose if a couple youngsters get together, I’ll make sure they didn’t have the same parents.

Sorry to hear this:hugs I'm wondering why this seems to be happening. Is it a thing with short beaked pigeons that they struggle to feed two? Or is only one parent feeding? How are the others doing? Are they all looking good? Thriving? Im just thinking along health issues, trying to rule out a few things as it's happened a few times now. Or I could just be bad luck.

I know both parents are feeding them. The cocks have horribly soiled chests as proof! Lol
Might be the short beaks, or just one baby being over-piggy? Or a combination of it all?

So far, all the ones that have survived to fully fledge seem quite heathy.

A couple pics from last week, I think these are mostly youngsters.

Well the stray I have has come from a guy in Glasgow. Its not that far at 240 miles! So I dont think he's gonna want to nip down to pick it up! I spoke to his wife earlier and he was going to phone me back when he finishes work.
Some reality points. 240 x 2 = 480 miles. His Rolls would consume quite a heap of Petrol.
His option to go economy would be this,,,,,,,,,,,

Chickens as well as certain type of wardrobe seem to be prone to DRAFTS.:idunno

Bottom line,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I think you may have a visitor to KEEP:love.
Beautiful breeding stock:thumbsup and infusion of new genes.

I just spoke to the owner. Sort of, he had a strong glasweigen accent! She was released from Gien in France on Friday. Its a 570 mile race. She has done this race three times before. He wants me to keep hold of her for a couple of days then release her. I have put her in with mine for the time being. I will release her Saturday morning. He did say that there is every chance she will return to my loft maybe upto a week afterwards. If she does this it will be while she builds herself back up. Then she should just go and hopefully return to him. She is an experienced racer so she should, technically, return to him first time!
