Pigeon Talk

Maybe, on the mornings you plan to fly, don't feed them at all, then let them fly for a while and feed them when they come in. Give them a good reason to come in.
I always feed in the morning so I never feed right before they're let out :)
I think feeding them about half as much as normal yesterday worked well because they all flew for about 20 minutes, came down, I shooed them off the roof then they took off again for about another 30 or so and then they landed back on the roof of the house and came in almost immediately when I whistled. I think another problem is that their feed had quite a bit of corn in it because of the winter and also the fact that I had a couple that would only sleep in the covered aviary at night so I wanted to keep them warm, now that the temperatures are a lot more mild I'm giving them less of a ratio of corn so they should be less full.

My yard is pretty bowl-shaped with lots of very tall trees surrounding it so I had a lot of issues with them flying tight circles within the yard rather than going above the treeline and exploring. Fortunately in the past two weeks they've been doing a lot more of that so hopefully I continue to have good luck and no hawks and their flying will improve.

Welp I'm moving to Texas in a month, just went out of town for a week to find both my pairs sitting on fertile eggs again😱 I think if the babies hatch it'll be about 19 days before our 3 day roadtrip to the new house. If so what's the likely hood I'll have to feed them myself those 3 days? Or will mom and dad still feed them while all crated up and stressed? Babies may not even hatch but all eggs are alive as of last night 😬

I had a close call today. I was racing a pigeon down the road! Clip from my dashcam, watch to the end!

Wowza! I was gonna say what @cavemanrich said — you’re on the wrong side of the road. :lau
Looked like kind of a dreary day. Were you trying to beat them home, or were those not your pigeons?
Congrats on the Archangel eggs!! I’m so jealous, such gorgeous birds.

Nice! That last shot is way cool!! :love

The youngsters could possibly be eating on their own or atleast beginning to at 19 days. If you keep them with the parents, I doubt you would have to feed them. I'd keep a bag of frozen peas on hand jic for emergency feeding/hydration if needed.
