It adds extra energy. I did this for my ducks when they came in from metzer. It helps them if they are weak...I helps with just giving them some kind of extra energy to get thro the molt.
I wouldn't give it to my poultry. I don't believe it is needed. But, I limit sugar in my own life. Your recipe was good though, but leaving the sugar out would be just as good.
I've heard of giving a bit of molasses, but it has a bit of nutriton with essential minerals and some vitamins where as white sugar does not. They can get energy from other carbohydrates like grains and such verses sugar.
I wanted to add though that ducklings might do fine with a bit of sugar after being shipped - or electrolytes and probiotics which is what I gave my ducklings. But, for full grown ducks, I think I would leave the granulated sugar out.

Your right...I think I might go in and add this info...I have been thinking about it and was wondering why I even added it in :)

Really? I give it to my ducks as a treat or when they are hungry and need a snack. Is it ok in moderation?
Yes, really, a daily diet that contains more than 30% protein can cause health problems. A handful of kitten food every now and then should be okay though.

She is most likely in molt if she is losing her flight feathers it can be a rough time for them. If you can get a pic of poo that will help a lot. Eating and drinking are good signs she isn't sick. If there was a intestinal blockage I doubt she’d be eating and she’d be very sick. Also check her tummy for swelling.
Okay, I saw her poop a few times today, and it looked normal. I gave her more vitamins and nutrients so she's getting better. Thank you for your help. :)
