An update on the oldest BBR cockerel....around 5 months old in this picture. He's looking better every day. Even though I don't think he is a non molter, I'm going to put him in a tomebako soon to see just how much he can grow in a year or so. He is a very calm and tame bird that would take well to that kind of life.
They both look very nice.. You can never tell if a bird is a nonmolter until you try.. I have had some that were nonmolters that didn't look like they should be.. And also, there are varying degrees of nonmolters.. Some keep 4 feathers, some 12, and so on.. Love what you have done with them and I think the little hen is a nice looking elegant hen.. Thanks for sharing..
Hi Matt, glad to see your one cockerel you were able to hatch is doing good! Wish you could have gotten more. Still pretty young to tell on them but they all look like they are off to a good start! He will loose that breast mottling when he gets older, the Ismer line of phoenix carries that till they go through their Juvenile molt.
After looking at the first batch of chicks that are left, we have 3 silver pullets, a silver cockerel, a few golden cockerels that are more of a soft cream color than the gold we've gotten before, a white pullet with some orange under the beak, and the red pyle colored pullet. We have another batch growing now that aren't old enough to tell the gender of yet. Plus I got a couple 'phoenix' pullets from McMurray, not expecting much as far as quality but got them for some sexlink makers, and to use on some other projects.
