PUPPIES HERE NOW...C SECTION.....PUPPY PICS..ABBY HOME

Well, no puppies. She has been having contractions for 24 hours now. I'm in tears. She has had this green discharge since yesterday morning and I finally called the vet yesterday and he panicked me and told me that she could die and to bring her in. When I went to load all the kids and Abby in my van, it would not start, I cried harder. I pulled up my boot straps, put on my game face, and went out our storage shed to get the battery charger to "try" to hook it up. I now know how to do that. It started and off we go with only 25 minutes to spare before the vet closes. We made it with the grace of God, and there was no baby stuck in the birth canal. Well, I was so happy. You know C-sections can cost up to $1500 not to mention hard on mama and puppies. He sent me home with two shots of oxytocin to give her 40 minutes apart, which I did and she contracted through the night. He said he thought she would have puppies by morning....... no puppies. He taught me how to examine her to tell if there is a puppy in the canal..... I felt a paw...a fingernail. I'm just playing the waiting game now to see if she is going to do this naturally, or if I have to intervene and bring her to the emergency clinic in Ft. Worth. Last litter, her first, was so easy, she totally did it herself, because we were gone to a friends for a few hours. My nerves are shot because of this balance of exactly when I should, or if I should, take her to get a C-section. Maybe I am hovering over her too much so I am giving her a rest from me, although she comes up to me to pet her and comfort her. I need an adult beverage and it is only 8:21AM. Please come soon puppies.

I've never delivered puppies, but I and my husband have delivered many calves. Can you feel if there's a nose behind the paw...or if there's two feet? I don't know if puppies present like a calf.....with a calf you should be able to feel/see two hooves with the bottoms/pads facing down and right between them slighty back, a nose.

Is she actively pushing?

Thank you Katy, I am going to go examine her again. I could feel one paw, but I did not want to hurt her too much so I stopped. I am going to see what I can feel now after about 30 minutes. Yes, she is contracting and pushing with those. The vet said it may take a while to push the puppies down the uterus and into position.

Okay, so I went out to examine her again and I did not feel the same thing, I guess that is a good thing because I know nothing is stuck in the canal. I could feel a front leg, I think, and it moved away from me so that is good too. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HAVE THESE PUPPIES BEFORE I HAVE A FREAKIN HEARTATTACK.

Believe me i know the stress you are going through last year i was sitting in the same boat as you with my dog Dixie - she was pushing and pushing and nothing was coming out expect that green stuff - so we rushed to the vet and had a C-section ( $600.00 later ) we had 10 puppies !!
you will know when it is time to take her to the vet when she looks like she just cant go any longer, breathing real hard, she gets really tired and really stressed, you and Abby have a close bond and you will be able to tell when she needs you to take her. I did not think we would know but one look in Dixie's eyes told me we need to go NOW.
I wish I could be more help to you and Abby. hopefully it is just a big puppy that will take a little more pushing and the rest come out without problems.

Good luck to you both-
Julie

chickengrlnm, I hope you are right about the big puppy. I don't know what to do. When yours had that csection could the mama nurse them or did you have to bottle feed them the whole time. How long should I let her go?
