Raerest breed

They’re auto sexing breeds that used the Barred Plymouth Rock as the dam in the first generation.
I don't think we need to save every single autosexing breed since some of them didn't have enough support to be a real breed anyways. Legbars are good enough for me. A lot of them just have two breeds as parents. A lot of breeds need more than two for parents though Australorps only had the Orpington.
Autosexing breeds are too similar to each other to bother with.

This is just my opinion though. I hope you don't think I'm trying to be rude, but I think with all those breeds we'd be over our head.

Some of those breeds I don’t particularly care for. The reason that they’re endangered is because they weren’t what people wanted.

Thought so. Someone probably thought "hey I can cross this chicken with a barred rock and name it after the parents and get an autosexing chicken that looks like the non rock parent but also every other autosexing breed created" but the world needed no more autosexing chickens. All you have to do is get a crele type color going and then breed to keep the colors separate for male and female chickens. Easy peasy.

Most of the auto sexing breeds were created in the UK starting in the 1930s.
It was a fantastic idea and they were created so they could be sexed at hatch and you would be able to guarantee the sexes so resources weren't wasted on raising male chicks since they were for laying.
Problem was by the 50s in the US we decided sex linked hybrids were a better way to go. Our trend of the sex links killed the popularity of the auto sexing breeds.

I don't see what the need to call me out like that was... several people did, it was just a simple comment to the thread, I didn't say it was the most rare breed, I was only naming a breed to add to the OPs thread. :hmm
I'm really sorry things came through like that. I don't think any of us intended insult to anyone. I know I didn't! Intent doesn't always come across very well in text, and we can all get a bit testy, especially when it's late and we're tired (I'm on the US' Mid-Atlantic coast, so it's pushing midnight, here! Again, I'm sorry!

Makes sense.

Sounds like the "poodle crossing" of the chicken world ... everybody seems to want an "oodle,"
Labradoodles, Goldendoodles, Sheepadoodles, Cockadoodles ... no wait a minute, now I'm back to chickens ...:D

It kind of does.... that's why I didn't think it was our "great responsibility to save these endangered breeds."

Show Quality Lakenvelders are quite rare. Welbars, Cambars, Rhodebars, Barnebars, Brockbars, Cobars, Polbars, & Wybars are extremely rare and on the verge of extinction. Many have been recreated like the Ancobars, Hampbars, and Cambars. Brussbars, Buffbars, Dorbars, Oklabars, & Whealbars are extinct too.

I doubt my Lakenvelders are near show quality, but they are a great breed. Super agile and intelligent. Good flyers too.
