Raerest breed

I doubt my Lakenvelders are near show quality, but they are a great breed. Super agile and intelligent. Good flyers too.

With the harder-to-find breeds, rare, threatened, or just scarce in your area, go ahead and put them out there to show. The worst case scenario is that you don't win a ribbon, but you meet someone else who has your breed and can share knowledge, tips and resources.
A mid range scenario is that you are the only one there and end up with a ribbon by default - but in the meantime, you've gotten the breed on the show roster and noticed by the judges and patrons of the event.
In either case, you also have the BEST case scenario ... a chance to educate people about your breed and possibly get someone else interested in raising them, too. So, by all means, keep working toward the breed standard, but in the meantime, get those birdies out and noticed!

I often get the middle case scenario with Buckeyes, but they aren't actually that rare. Just not many breeders in Wisconsin.

It was just a comment, I've never seen one. I got the point yesterday
I posted that before reading the whole thread and seeing others had made the same comments. Probably should've edited it.
They actually are still I imagine quite rare, compared to most other breeds. Becoming more common though, I see them once in awhile pretty cheap, especially extra roosters or culls from breeders, white toenail and or a mulberry comb. Once in awhile I see breeding pairs for a few hundred $$, and they claim they are worth thousands, must be they hadn't got word they are not worth that much anymore.
Heck four yrs ago I almost bought a bunch of chicks $25ea crossed with redleghorn just to get some fibro birds. GFF was selling breeding pairs of cemanis at the time for $2,500
Last yr, maybe it was a couple yrs ago GFF was selling straight run chicks I think it was $65, now they are selling juveniles for $200ea. The more people breeding and selling them the price will go down.
There has been a byc member, a breeder of them, don't know if they are still doing it, hosting games where you could win hatching eggs.

I suppose, are we talking about rare or endangered breeds? Because as for endangered I have no stinkin clue if it is or not, I never meant it like that. As for getting your hands on one, THATS rare. Maybe I should've been more specific, I don't know. I guess being a small free range flock owner I'd never dream of spending more than 50$ on a single chicken, so even seeing an Ayam Cemani for 65$ is impossible for me. Guess I was applying my personal situation to everyone.

I still am pretty sorry about that, the popularity of this rare breed just got the better of me. Is there a way I could make up to it?
