Raerest breed

Nah I'm just gonna ask staff to delete my post, that way everything will stop. I just felt publicly embarrassed so I got angry about it, it was probably overreacting on my part.
I do that quite often...especially when I write a gene name and someone corrects me about it even though I already know what it is called. :th

Just was making sure, I wish everyone to enjoy themselves

I suppose, are we talking about rare or endangered breeds? Because as for endangered I have no stinkin clue if it is or not, I never meant it like that. As for getting your hands on one, THATS rare. Maybe I should've been more specific, I don't know. I guess being a small free range flock owner I'd never dream of spending more than 50$ on a single chicken, so even seeing an Ayam Cemani for 65$ is impossible for me. Guess I was applying my personal situation to everyone.
I'm with you on that one, for sure! We have a pretty small flock, too (although chicken math got me a bit, this Spring.) We have to watch every nickel and dime, so spending that kind of money on a single bird is out of the question. It would mean buying a beak instead of paying a bill!

Please try not to worry about it. It's a hazard of text-only conversations. Text doesn't allow us to add inflections where we intend them, so they get added in after the fact, sometimes in the wrong places. BYC is a very open and forgiving forum.
Personally, I think this has been a good discussion - lots of opinions on all sides and lots of input on hard-to-find birds. It's interesting to see what is rare where - and what can be found if we look a little further afield. It's all good!

Most I've ever paid was $5 chick + shipping  Langshan's and White Jersey Giant's from Sandhill Preservation Center.
Rare and unheard of for me, my area has about everything GFF has and cheaper, I don't know anyone that has naked necks , or even has ever heard of them or saw them, and they are cheap and available at most hatcheries. I actually had my BIL convinced they were baby ostrich, then I don't think he believed me when I admitted they were just chickens, made a comment before he left, 'your going to have to build a heck of a fence for them' :lau

Once you get away from the Ohio Valley, you'd be hard-pressed to find good Buckeyes anywhere. They have a neat backstory, too!
Yeah. There are enough to not be considered the "Rarest breed" though. Aaron Baker at Baker Acres has progressed a lot with that breed. They are becoming more frequent at champion row. The many people who own them aren't going to let the breed down. They may have been rare at one time, but now you just have to do searching.

Lol. Yeah I was surprised to see them at a show once. More suprised than I was to see "Madagascar Game" at a different show. Hatchery Naked Necks are like Easter Eggers. Nothing consistent but the naked neck, and usually the clean face and single comb. They come in all colors, shapes and sizes. I don't even know what a good naked neck chicken looks like, if it even exists anymore.

I still am pretty sorry about that, the popularity of this rare breed just got the better of me. Is there a way I could make up to it?
Yup ... Have a black chicken for dinner! If we give 'em back their original job, maybe they won't be so rare. Let's see, if we price them a little more competitively, say $50 a bird, how much would my McChicken sandwich cost, then?
All joking aside, though, the novelty is wearing off a bit, so we'll likely see more in just a little while. Any guesses as to what the next super-rare get rich quick poultry is gonna be? I'm thinking that the Dong Tao, the one with the elephant legs, may catch on, but only to a select few who can deal with what looks like a serious case of bumblefoot overkill. There's got to be another super-star wannabe waiting in the ... please pardon the pun, here ... wings!

That's a very good question. I'm trying to think of any birds that could be popular.
